11 secs is no easy feat...

The guy in the Vid Anti posted up was impressive... But I'm confused as to how it ran 11's on 17psi with stock turbos (and I'm assuming they were Auto stock turbos considering he is running an auto box) I'm guessing the car had some other mods he was not aware of... Either that, or his car is just a freak.

    Pmack is running:

    2 seater
stock manual turbos at 20 psi
    Ported manifolds
    Shift kit with serious modifications
    Toluene - for octane boost
    MT streets
Essentially bigger injectors as the stock fuel pressure is at 70 psi
Custom tune - Pmacks recipe. On the edge!

Pmack is also pretty much the only person to have run 11's on stock turbos as far as I know. Kudos!

Imo, to run 11's with your 2+2, you will need to do the following:

Usual mods ie: Bigger IC's, Pod filter
    MT ET streets
    Bigger injectors 555cc or bigger
    Bigger Turbos T28's or similar
    Bigger mani's or honed mani's
Better dumps ie: ToyZ or similar
    Full exhaust 3" preferably
    Suspension set-up (rear suspension anti-squat)

If u wanna try and push ur relatively stock Z as far as it will go:

Usual mods ie: Bigger IC's, Exhaust, Pod filter
    MT ET streets
Up fuel pressure on stock injectors
Tune for 17-18psi on BP ultimate

The above should see you in the mid 12's.

    Good luck. :)

Gottago has run 11.94@ 117mph. 555 injectors, mines ecu, bigger i/c's, dumps, exhaust, pod, mbc and a manual. It is a 2+2 aswell.

You dont need to spend big dollars to do it reliably, both pmack and gottago have hundreds of runs on thier cars, both driven to and from the track on radials, neither has any weight reduction and other than pods would pass any road side check.

Here's the thing, neither of these 2 believed everything they read on the internet and actually used abit of thier own smarts to do it instead of following the last guy.

I was under the impression that Gottago's best run was 12.2?

    Either way, its bloody quick...

The timesheets in ZXTRAS suggest that 11 seconds is fairly hard to achieve as there are some very modded cars in the list.

I had good compression, (2+2 auto, stock injectors, stock turbs) mines ecu, full exhaust, 15psi boost, MT ET streets, 98 octane, leader gears, FMIC, pod, shift kit and managed a best of 12.8 :(

I must be a shit driver then lol...

so it seems I can't do it. But I'll try :)

Cheap and fast it is. No where do I mention I care about reliability. It has never been a reliable car as I toy around with it in the shed way too much. So this is a moot point.

    -Injectors are stock

    -not 17psi only 14 atm

-I was looking at the selin dual intake myself

-as for c130 spent years in the airforce working on them. They are rubbish :D But I'll take it onboard lol

unfortunately 11s aren't that impressive these days, 10 seconds and under is where its at.

that was my point not to ave a dig, i believe its achievable you just loose reliable

    Sarcasm failed.
11 seconds is still nothing to be sneezed at. Especially considering the budget implied by the OP.

always tradeoffs. This is why race teams strip the engines down after each couple of meets... Driving the fine line betyween a real fast car (once before it blows) and a reliable car is a balancing act indeed.

    No offence taken

I just want helpful answers, and I am getting them. The only one I am not sure of but am not writing off is the auto conversion. I just looked at the 1/4 list and the top 10 cars are all MT except for one Auto. So it kinda doesn't make sense to me.

Back to business. Tyres. I am thinking the Falken rt615k's. Apparently the nittos are very hard to heat up. I will get some 740 injectors and a tune to match. I think being hitech my ecu should be socketed. (have to confirm) and a boost controller up to about 18psi to start. Then get a benchmark run done.

Also after reading about racing I was stupid enough not only to have 7 year old tyres that are a rubbish brand for racing, but I had 40psi in them and didn't let them down through the course of the day...What a twit

Anyway opinions always welcomed. I try not to take offence to any of them. So feel free to keep em coming. I truly value other peoples opinions. And besides if I can't get to 11's it will still be a chance to organise the central vic clan for another outing to heathcote :D

The fact that the fastest cars are mainly MT is more to do with the nature of 300zx owners I believe mate. Mainly people who like track work or an all around good car not just straight line speed. Autos are generally faster than manuals on the strip.. you can fit a big stall and launch easier and change gears faster.

If you want to get to 11 seconds cheaper this is probably the way to go. Maybe try in the manual first, you can always swap to an auto if you find it too hard?

I have done it once but could not find it in the pile of 300 or so timeslips I have,
Its time I found it to show you all, But it can be done, Its all abot practise.

with drag radials, a manual shift auto box and a suspension set up just for drags plus some simple weight stripping there is no reason your car won't go fast and be reliable. just cause its set up for drags doesn't isnstantly mean your car has to be running on knife edge the whole time. stripping weight is free performance. tuning the suspension is very important but doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. you want the car reliable and consistant before you start stepping up to more power.

auto is certainly not out of the equation

How much for a built auto to do the job though? I love the idea of cruising with an auto. Especially as I get older and don't like using gears so much anymore haha

I'll go the tyres first and do some suspension and go for a run. What should I be looking at suspension wise? Byran (brytech) shot me an email so will organise another heathcote trip really soon

    very nice price on that

It's dropped to $1500. I could seriously afford this ahaha. Thanks for the find. I will run it with semi slicks and then go from there

well just as a guess i reckon you'd only need half as many adjustable arms compared to a track car. toe and camber can make big differences in performance for a car thats only going straight. not sure about which direction to take on coilovers or adjustable shock and spring combo.
you know what, all this has got me thinking. i went to Jamboree at WSID on sunday and there wasn't one zed racing. it would cost a hell of a lot less to get my own project car ready to race in drag spec compared to circuit spec. simple front brake upgrade, easy suspension mods, 16 inch wheels to use drag radials, only need a cage if you run quicker than 10.90, dont really need an exhaust, a zed would stand out in a sea of Mazdas and Datsuns, plus mine already weighs as much as a Silvia and at a stage where the only thing i'd have to change is swapping to an auto.
    mmm top gear skids.:br:
im glad you brought this subject up, i've got some thinking to do :D

Im not so sure you need to turn your car into an animal to do it , i have been able to run a number of 11 sec passes with out too many crazy mods, car is still good on fuel and drives normaly (in the future this may change? )
