I have a red 2+0 with a few paint issues, I also live in the country, I took it into 2 different panel beaters and got quotes to get a few dents out and re-spray, not only were they surprised to see a sporty looking car instead of a land cruiser or tractor they both gave me a price of around $6,500.

Seems a bit much for such a small car? Any thoughts?

i got a few quotes to respray my car, was bout the 6000 mark as well.. lowest i got was a painter up by my work he quoted me 4,500 for body respray and panel beating a dent.

i'd say 4,500-6000 is the avergare price you'll get qouted just take ya time look for the right panel beater look at their other jobs they have done etc

    Ive just had mine painted.

To be honest, that price i would consider good if they do a good job of it.
I got away with it cheaply because me and a mate done all the prep work (sanding, panel beating, filling, sanding, priming, wet sanding) mind you this took just over 2 years of after hours work and countless boxes of beer.

also all the materials used so far (sanding discs, sanding sheets, body filler, primer + hardener, paint, thinners, etc etc etc) the list goes on and on.
materials alone cost around $3000 if not more.

then you got labour on top of that.

I admit at first I thought the same as you about the price when i got it quoted.
But to see and feel how much work is involved to do it, the price makes sense.

More details? Stuff like; are you having full engine bay painted (running gear out)? Windows/interior out? Expect to pay a lot more, perhaps double that.

Interesting... it?s mainly one panel that is stuffed but I don?t want to paint that one and have the colour's not matching. I think for that money I will just leave it for now.

If the dent is the main issue then there are a few options to fix it far more cheaply. First of all, which panel is damaged? I nudged a very strangely shaped pole in a dark carpark with my front left nose panel on my NA when I first got it, the panel wasn't really worth saving. Quick fix was to find another gun metal grey panel in good nick from a wrecker, both were in OEM colours, stuck it on, cant tell the difference. All for about $250 and an hours worth of fiddling to work out how to change the panels over.

Secondly, with the respray, are you only wanting it so that everything matches up? That's what it sounds like from your post. I suggest locating the problem areas and asking for a quote for a touch up rather than a full repspray if the rest of the paint is good. That'll save you a fair bit of cash. My mother had some damage fixed (a large gash down both doors) and the paint touched up extremely well for just over 1,000.
