And to replace one back in the car too. Just an average time with one person on the job and no hoist or pit.
No hoist? What are you gonna do, lift it by hand? I've done it with a few people in a few hours, but we were relaxing a bit
Less than 4 hours if I get excited. 10-15 I would expect for an average weekend tinkerer who has seen a z32 before.
Up on stands, to R&R a engine, one up, from stop to startup, with no mods, i'd say 2 weekends, with the time between to buy/solve standard R&R issues. ' ross
Thanks blokes, jack the car up, put it on stands, use an engine crane or whatever you want to call it to lift the engine out. Other than that just the usual hand tools.
To be realistic, for someone with a reasonable set of tools, it will take a day to remove engine & gearbox and another day to refit. If there are bits to swap over from one engine to the other then this will be extra. Just ensure you label all the electrical plugs etc as you disconnect them.
agreed, for someone whos done it multiple times, otherwise, if its straight one engine out new engine in, 1 full day. if needing to fit new parts to replacement engine or doing na/tt swap or auto/manual swap, then allow extra time
Agree I'd give yourself a weekend to do it and take your time. make sure you lable all the plugs, connectors and hoses. Are you pulling the gearbox aswell or seperating from the motor before you pull?. If leaving the box in the car then get yourself a 450 or 500mm extension for your sockets, it makes it so much easier to get to the bell housing bolts at the back of the motor from underneath. Sorry for the Hijack, and admittedly this may be a moot point let's say you're paying a mechanic to pull the engine; swap stock for recon'd/hybrid turbos (so no faffin about with changing manifolds/downpipes etc. What'd you be looking at labour wise?
again this will depend on the mechanics experience. I would start with the low times for a Z experienced mechanic and then the sky is the limit. I hate to say it but just because someone is a mechanic it does not mean they are any better or faster than a back yarder with good tools and equipment when a car like ours is in question. Experience is where your money goes, guys with it can cost more but know what they are doing and how to do it, those without may well be cheaper but can fall foul of the same issues that all other noobs do
Understood, i'll jus have the option early next year of gettin the swap done by two fairly reputable mechanics with experience with Zeds but quotations i've got from both vary quite a bit my regular mechanic at +600-750US$ and another zed owner suggested his mechanic who quoted me the same job at US$1200. Either way makes me wish i was in Oz to hold a techday
