Hi all, apologies if I haven't searched properly. I've just started my manual conversion so expect a lot of noob questions from me I've gotten the car on axle stands and I'm not sure if she is high enough. The rails are 350mm off the ground. Is that enough to drop the gearbox and fit a new one in?
doesn't sound like you have enough space. you'd probably need to double that to have enough clearance under the car to get the trans out while it's on a jack.
Agree with Mike, the higher you can get it, the easier the removal & installation will be. Especially when it comes time to remove & reassemble the upper bell housing bolts. Ensure the vehicle is SAFELY supported, you don't want it falling on top of you. Do yourself a favour & get some plastic boxes, something like ice cream containers work well, to place the bolts & brackets in as you remove them. Also place the bolts in their respective bracket holes & then put them in the containers. It will make the reassembly process simpler.
From memory, this was about 50cm off the ground. In a perfect world, you do it on a hoist with a trans jack - know any mechanics?
Thanks guys. Donor gearbox is in the donor car... So I'll have to pull that out after this Don't know anyone who would let me use their hoist. Unless someone out west is volunteering lol
