Just after an opinion on fitting hid ballasts in the old stock air intake, can anyone see any issues with this?

under the nose sure, if your running a pod, else you can put them in the hole (recess) under the headlights.

Yeh I don't really want to take the bumper off to get under the headlights. Aftermarket bumper was a bitch to install.

Can access underneath the headlights once you pull your nose panel and intake T-piece off.

Another suggestion is that you can get Silicone suppressed extension leads for the HID hi-voltage output, that run from the ballast to the HID lamps quite cheaply, and are readily available through Ebay. Will give you a lot of extra flexibility with ballast placement.

Am using said extension leads on my blue slicktop, without any issue.

    Cheers

I cable tied mine to the intake Y piece, worked great

Length of the cables may be an issue. Mostly i have put mine under the nose panel but the low beam ones had to go in the engine compartment on the convertible.

Ease of access is an issue too. If you buy crap ones that only last a couple of months, you (I) trend to put the replacement ones where you can get to them easily for next time

What about inside the old stock air intakes, they will also keep cool with the airflow.

Very stealth, but are you sure they will keep dry down there?

    I actually bought that, but I have a 1990 300zx. I doubted that there was a difference between the 1990 & 1991 headlights.
The main attraction of this kit was the low beam CUT off shield.

PS: it isn't plug and play, it will require dismantling of head lights and mods to fit. I haven't installed mine yet, because I can't disable the car by removing the headlights at the moment.

If you are worried about not having the sharp cut-off for the low beam, then maybe this will give you some idea about making a shield to achieve the cut-off.
