it was running fine until a hard stop at the lights. revs dropped and it stalled. thought it was fuel pump and bypassed it but still cannot start. tried again after about 10 mins, started for 2 seconds and died again. started after 2 hours and idles fine. take off in 1st, change to 2nd and at 2500 rpm, an extremely loud (fan belt) sounding squeaking noise comes on. this also happens at idle. a mate said he could see some sort of light smoke coming out when squeaking. any ideas?
dink, my a/c belt tensioner carked it recently ... mine was a lesser sound than yours and really only evident on start up and idle ... on my doctor's advice, checked it into " the un-nameable " zed specialist on the gold coast .. he identified the problem inside 30 seconds .. and was not at all keen for me to drive it further, anywhere ..!! final diagnosis .. the tensioner/pulley probably had only a few kilometres to go .. and had it gone ..?? disaster .. !!!! if it is your pulley on the way out, you will need to do something .. and very quickly ..!!!:thumbsdown:
Mine carked it recently too seems like the time for it, luckily mine was picked up by that unamed gold coast specialist when they replaced the water pump.
i've crawled back home keeping it below 2000 rpm  when my friend first observed the smoke, he said it was around the driver side headlight. after poking around, i discovered that one of the belts was cutting into the lower radiator hose  no leaks on the rad hose yet thankfully i'm hoping this is the source of the smoke and squeaking but it still doesn't explain how i cannot start after the hard stop the major problem is that i have a date on thursday night. what am i gonna drive??
If the belt is the aircon, just cut it off with a sharp knife (Had to do this to Fleet's car in peak hour traffic in Sydney coming back from Goulburn last year ) You can also do same with power steering belt if you are desperate, only one you shouldn't cut is alternator!!! Then you can drive with no problems... Stalling is indicative of the problem. belt dragging causes load on engine sufficient to stall... (This is what happened on Fleet's car too) If you can source a replacement, I will fit for you FOC:thumbsup:
im just thinking, since i dont have the canister and i cant see myself using the a/c in 40 degree days in fear of over heating, i may aswell grab a few more ponies if they are available by eliminating the drag from the a/c pulley..
I don't think you'll get a few more ponies Trav More like a hoof or two at the most - there isn't much drag with the A/C off.
pics are up Zoooom in as you can see, the groove in the hose is about 1mm deep. just below that groove is another parallel groove also about 1mm
dink ..re thursday night date ...... i have a funeral to attend thurs pm.. but you can borrow black bess for thurs night if it will help secure your preferred outcome (????:thumbsup .... and it has just been washed so it looks better than your scruffy machine ...:LOL::LOL::thumbsup:
That's the power steering hose... just cut it off for now also, you will need a new upper rad hose (just to be safe). Bring it over and i'll replace your hose with a spare I have...
uncle baz, thanks for the offer. you have a 2+0 and i need the extra room a friend of mine has offered his mazda. excellent sound system, air cond, velour seats with alot of room  chook and ky, there's a zip tie at the bottom holding the hose towards the belt. i'll cut this to see if it will free up the hose. i'm not sure how to tie the hose towards the direction of the rad fan though. chris, i don't have datascan. if i can resecure the hose so there's no contact with the belt, i'll be popping over to pex's tech day. last time the stalling happened was the base idle. once adjusted, it ran fine but still happened especially at high speed stopping ... not that i was speeding or anything
Manoeuver the hose by twisting the top .... ... where it fits hardpipe. There should be a j-clamp on the bottom of the radiator, drivers side to help locate/retain the hose. Cya at Pex's Sunday lunch, aka Tech Day
