    Hi,

I have read in my owner's manual and other various places that the Jap-spec models have a globe called a H3C whereas the Aus-spec and available HID kits are all H3 for the low beam projectors.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to use H3 HID's in my H3C low beam sockets? What is the difference?

Extra question, what is the easiest way to change headlight globes in these cars? On the passenger side the fuse/relay/electrical box and coolant filler are in the way and on the driver side the HICAS module is in the way!

Is there an easy way to install my H1 Hi-beam HID's and soon-to-purchase H3/H3C low beam HID's?

Please add photos if you can help or if there's a thread describing exactly what I need to know, a link would be absolutely fabulous!

    Cheers,
    Mitchell.

Normal H3 HID's will fit fine. Difference between H3 and H3C is the electrical connection. H3 have a earth wire, while H3C has a two pin plug.

The highbeam H1's are a bit of a PITA. Have a search, there's been some discussion on how to do it previously.

Both bulb types are pretty much the same except for the electrical connection like Chrispy has said...the best way i have felt to do the high beams would be to take the headlights out and do them...

i will be doing my high beams when i will be putting my new front bumper in...and plus it gives me a chance to clean my headlights and possibly do the audi lights mod as well as the halo lights lol

I have goten myself and my friends quite a few HID kits and they are really easy to install and pretty straightforward...just make sure to zip tie the ballast to hold it in place or just wedge it somewhere in the engine bay where it doesnt move around...

Free advice...dont use a cheaper kit or bulb type as the brightness of the lights gets affected...as when i got my car it came with H7 kit installed and it wasnt as bright...but when i changed it to H3 i could see everything lol

    Goodluck,
    Abraham

Thought this might be helpful but does not show connectors.

Ok, so H3's and H3C's work in the same socket with no mods to socket or wiring?

Or do I need to change the connector?

If you're interested, 35w - 4300k seems the most popular choice for H3 HID's (anything above 4300k just doesn't light up the road too well & 55w HID's for low beams will just annoy traffic coming the other way). Of course 55w HID's for the H1's is the way to go for high beam! Once you get started with the install, you'll probably find that you don't even need instructions.

Yeah. Can anyone please provide a link to some good value for money HID's in H3 - 35w?

Possibly also even a pair of H1 55w ones!

    Any help appreciated!

To add to this, I just tried 6000k HIDs. Horrible. Blue. Yuck. :(

Pulled them out after 20 mins.

    misszen Red ones go faster!

Value for money i'm not sure?

But the best bulbs are phillips (its pretty well unanimous).
They cost twice as much as other cheapies though.

I wouldn't be too concerned - initially I paid top dollar for a kit - they were fine. The next time I needed a set I went cheap and nasty - they were fine too. Some people pay top dollar & end up with a dud kit, some people buy cheap and nasty and end up with a dud kit... HID kits are just like so many other mass produced products. I'd just buy from someone on ebay that's sold thousands of units and still has near enough to a 100% feedback rating - pretty much can't go wrong.

Correct. H3c and H3 fit in the same socket. Only difference is that H3's have a power wire with the body of the globe earthed, whereas the H3c's have an earth pin.
If you want to use cheaper H3's in a Zed, just earth the globe body to a chassis earth.

Hey, i have a pair of 55w HIDs and ballasts left over from the last group buy, pm me if you're interested. Didn't get round to installing them and they're just sitting here doing nothing! They're 4300k, so pure white... i would go anything higher for high beams personally.

Thanks mate. I had the same idea. I bought a pair of Hi/Lo H4 HID's at 6000k for my old man's imported 80 Series Landcruiser turbo diesel... $84.90 + free postage = Heaps sweet way to light up his day! Literally, LIGHT UP! Very white and very bright.
