    You need a 300zx Tuned Crystal Ball. There is no way to tell if/when a head gasket is going to fail(there are numerous ways of telling why a head gasket HAS failed).

    Why do you ask?:zlove::confused:

    If you mean "will it blow because of your previous overheat", then it is extremely unlikey if it hasn't blown by now.

    I was unaware of you having had overheating problems in the past, but my answer is still valid.
    This may be an appropriate point at which to clarify that you have two head gaskets on a Z32.

    its a small gasket that sits between the heads and the block. Both the heads and the block have oil and water passages to lubricate and cool the motor. When the head gasket blows, these galleries are no longer contained and you get water mixing into oil or into the combustion chamber. To repair its an engine out job and engine pull apart.... or at the very least, the heads have to come off. Very time consuming and pricey.

    ^Hahaha.

    Billy, we have two headgaskets because it's a v6 with separate banks (cylinder heads) on each side. A straight-six for instance, will only have one headgasket.

    Below the gasket are pistons and the rest of the block, above the gasket are the heads with their valve gear (valves, cams, lifters, etc).

    ok then, thx guys especially Ian. I was worried because after getting all new radiator hoses n water hoses done I have had 2-3 times experiences with coollant leaking from the back of engine, that's y I was nervious.

    Cheers

    If you have coolant leaking at the rear of the engine, you don't need Chili's crystal ball. Head gaskets are going to blow unless you fix it.

    When your engine runs out of water it gets very hot and the heads will warp like a banana causing the gasket to fail where the clamping pressure drops.

    SH#T, so u r saying the head are definately going to blow, just depending on when it happens right??? I've talked to another senior member, he said it could be due to loose clamp, or is there anything else u can think of??

    Cheers

    Do the hoses still leak? I thought that's why they pulled the engine out to fix all the leaks. You do need to get all the leaks sorted, some may be just hose clamps but they need to be fixed.

    Yeah I know that's what I was thinking but the think is I don't have any idea how to start where to check. Firstly, I work 7 days n 5 nights (will cut down later), Second, I don't know much about Zed (Ian might know). Everytime I drive I will definately top up the coollant before drive. Everytime there must be 15-20ml coollant needed to be refull not sure where it goes but....anyway....still trying to organise some time to have a look even not sure what to look at.

    If that was directed at me Flamingo Boy, have you ever heard the saying "one picture is worth a thousand words"?

    "Tongue in cheek" though it may have been, my response(with pictures)accompanied by Jedi's explanation, provided a crystal-clear answer to the original question re Head Gaskets. Can't do much better than that!:p:zlove:
