Ok. For about 2 years now i've had power steering problems. I guess i just got used to it, but the time has come to finally fix it. It started out as an intermittent problem, seeming to randomly cut in and out. It has worsened since then, only working when it rains First things first, i did in the beginning, and again recently check for any air in the system and also clean the connectors attaching to the solenoid. I can confirm the p/s pump is working, and that also the solenoid worked today when i pulled it off the car, pulled it apart and put 12 volts up its ass. (side note, the solenoid worked when the pin was pointing upwards, but i couldn't get it to work laying down. maybe just an issue of it running without fluid however) Before i go ahead and buy a new solenoid, is there a switch, or controller that controls when the power steering should switch from high speed to low speed settings? or is there something else i should try? and why the hell does it work well in the rain!!!! HELP~~~~
@ kabir I'm not sure where to find the p/s controller, i have a N/A. Do you know where it is? @chrispy im all set up here still to change it, bought some car ramps today!!
It is under ECU. Small box ( Shiny). Smaller than cruise control computer. My bet is that controller isn't working. Anton has one from his NA car. PM him. Let me know if you need a photo how it looks like. The solenoid hardly goes wrong. I have two solenoid with me and they all works OK.
ahh yes i've seen that one! I will message this "Anton" fellow if a the new solenoid gives me no success +1 thanks to u both <3
**update** Changed the solenoid over.. still no joy. is there any other connectors to check apart from the one immediately beside the solenoid??
Hmmmm... The fact that it works well in the rain... Possibly a connection issue? Water helping the contact maybe? Check all connectors going to the solenoid. Check anything that could be exposed to water connection wise... Connector pins, wires close to the back of the plugs... Guess you could try and drench the area with water (ie raining) and see if it fixes it. If it does, definately connection issue. Start unwrapping tape, testing plugs, pins, wires. Check for corrosion... etc
@ kabir, haven't gone with a new controller yet, cruise control is working fine. I'm starting to believe it may be another connector somewhere, as i am 100% sure it works when its wet. even today driving to chrispys in the rain, it worked the whole way. but not ealier, before the rain hit. its just so damn hard to see where the wires go
