hey all, been rebuilding the z engine from short engine up and have been going quite well with the help of previous posts and the 300zx manual, but i have hit a small hump when trying to re attach the sensor that somehow connects below the intake manifold.

Its hard to describe where it is, and yes i would give a photo but its not connected so not 100% sure where it came off. Im 99% sure it connects below the intake manifold that connects to the idler pulley... the one between the two heads, and i think connects on the top of the block.

I have the sensor which looks like it was connected with somesort of melting plastic, not glue, not weld, but quite hard.

I was wonder if 1. i need a new one... and 2. how and where i can find out how to reattach it.

I hope i have given enough information, and any help would be greatly appreciated, and to all those, yes i have searched the past posts, and the manual, i just dont know wat this thing is called...

if it's that one pictured, it is called the knock or detonation sensor. Yes it is important!. Also be aware that when you put the motor back in the car you will find two plugs that it can be plugged to, make sure you get the right one.
Would be a good idea to buy a new knock sensor to put in because if it fails when the motor is in the car it is a real pita to replace .
