HELP - vacuum hoses everywhere... (long)

Ok, so the plenum is back on, and most everything is reconnected, but there are a bunch of vacuum hoses that no longer go anywhere.

For background, I removed the EGR and put the blanking plates on the plenum, and the bolt in the passenger side manifold. I also bypassed the under-plenum coolant hoses, and removed the "rails" under either side of the plenum, which will account for some hoses not going anywhere.

I wanted to remove the AIV system/PRVR system but the US tech articles are arse-backwards because of the LHD.

At this stage I'm not worried about having extra junk in my engine bay, I just want to seal up what needs to be sealed so I can drive the car without boost leaks.

It's on a TT manual, if that makes a difference.

    Anyway:

    1) on the driver's side, near the firewall, there is a little solenoid thingy with two vacuum hoses that used to connect up near the engine bracket. I'm 90% sure, from reading tech articles, this is the EGR solenoid (as opposed to the big control valve on the back of the motor) - is this right? It's the one that's slightly higher up. Is it ok to leave the two hoses unconnected?

    2) there's a little vaccuum hose coming from under the driver's side throttle body. I don't think that's a concern, but happy to be corrected.

    3) on the passenger side, near the battery, are two narrow hoses that come from out of the fenderwell. One hooks up to the balance tube, the other just below it to a spigot on the plenum. I reattached these, but should I somehow block them off at the balance tube/plenum?

    4) On the passenger side of the balance tube there is a small metal pipe that no longer attaches to anything. It used to go to a small rubber hose that went under the plenum. What happens wtih this?

    5) THere are two hoses, one narrow and one slightly thicker, coming from under the passenger side headlight, possibly the carbon canister. Again, I think these used to hook up to the rail under the plenum, but since that's gone they're just floating. Left unattached, these would cause a massive boost leak, yeah?

Again, if anyone who can tell me what to block off/clamp/whatever to disable the AIV's/PRVR's and make a sealed system again, that would help me out hugely.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Just to get you started there should be two solenoids either side of the engine near the fire wall. One each side there will be identical solenoids, these are the AIV's, the other on the D/S is the EGR and the P/S is the PRVR solenoid.

To take care of the PRVR, get a small amount of vacuum hose and run it from the spigot on the passenger side of the plenum just below the balance pipe to the hard steel pipe just below the fuel return line which on the other side will meet the fuel pressure regulator. The other vacuum lines you mention going into the passenger side fender are for the PRVR canister and P/S AIV so obviously you can loose these.

The little hose coming from the underside of the D/S throttle body should connect to a metal hard pipe attached to the plenum, this is the feed line for the EGR solenoid, you can plug that one.

Your number 5 issue, one hose goes to the smaller pipe on the rear of the balance pipe that finishes next to the VCT and O2 sensor plugs, the other hose goes to the smaller spigot inserted half way along and center of the P/S plenum just below the AAC hard pipe that connects the AAC to the P/S turbo boost pipe.

Any further questions you may have, a picture is worth a thousand words. Good luck :)

One more thing - on the Passenger side, there are actually 3 lines coming from under

the headlight, 2 larger vacuum lines and one really thin one.

One of the larger ones used to connect up under the P/S throttle body, and I think it went along a solid rail, then a short section of vacuum hose connected it to the small pipe at the rear of the balance tube.

Do I simply buy a longer section of hose to connect up this hose from under the headlight to the back of the balance tube directly?

There is another largish vaccum hose but I think that just goes to the spigot halfway down the P/S plenum, as noted below.

I'll try to borrow a camera and take pics.

Also: is the PRVR canister and teh carbon canister the same thing?

    No mate

The PRVR canister is in the passenger quarter panel and the carbon canistor is under the passenger headlight.

Very hard to see anything with the panels still on.
