    Hey all,

This problem started a few weeks ago, every now and then when i turned the key i would get that nasty teeth on teeth grindy noise from the starter motor. Next turn it would fire up first kick.

Lately its happening more and more.

Is this likely to be the ring gear? or my starter motor? Is that a common problem with the zeds? This being a 1991, tt, man.

Any help, and advice on replacement parts would be great

    Cheers.Clint

    Check starter motor bolts

They can come loose or strip out the thread.

    Re: Check starter motor bolts

Spot on Rob. I had to recoil one of the starter bolts on my change over tranny. Seems people arnt too careful when they bolt them on. Stripping them out.

A nut on a stud and a bolt hold the starter motor on

and as already noted the bolt through to the alloy transmission housing is often stripped. Mine didn't even have a bolt in there at all and was just held in place by the nut on the stud.

Nice one guys, you were spot on.

The lower bolt is not holding torque. I gave the the uppper bolt a little more to hold it till the weekend.

    Thanks again
    Cheers..Clint
