Someone correct me if im wrong, but this sounds like an alternator/power steering fault. I had the same thing minus the dash dying. My power steering was leaking into the alternator. Killed it. twice. Chris (ezzupturbo) said something about the power steering and dash going at once. ask him :

your speed sensor is dead mate when it dies out so does your power steering. Ask around for a speed sensor on here it should fix it.

Sounds like dry joints on your dash cluster. The speed signal is passed from the cluster to the PSCU so when the cluster signal goes, so will the power steering (fail safe mode)

    Check here

yes it's speed sensor or a dry joint somewhere for the speed sensor.

+1 for dry joints on the back of the speedo, happened to mine about 10 years ago and I had the same symptoms as you.

I have a similar issue, basically the same except the speedo goes round to warp speed, not zero. Other symptoms the same, likely same cause?

I have a smiliar issue as well.. My speedo doesnt work when i start driving the car usually during the day when it is hot.. I give the cluster a good bang and most of the time it jumps back up to the speed im doing.. Could also be a faulty cluster that your experiencing mate, and the power steering could be coincedental.

Sounds like dry joints in the cluster.

    Yes.

As I said earlier in the thread, the power steering control unit uses a signal passed to it from the cluster. If you cluster isn't working, the PS likely won't be also.

    Get soldering guys.:zlove:

Read the thread again lol, pull out your cluster and start looking for dry solder joints.
