I'm sure you all have heard/read about MartiniZ's accident on 29th August.

To help Martin get back on the road and rebuild a newer and better Zed, anyone wanting to:

    - donate money to help buy parts;
    - donate spare parts; or
    - even your time (to help out with the rebuild)

Please let me know. If you're wanting to donate money, please shoot me a PM and account details will be given.

A list of parts that will be needed will be posted shortly, as will details about upcoming tech day(s) to help Martin get going again.

    Thanks Everyone.

It's the best asset of this forum as compared to others floating around... the sense of family! I pledge to assist in any simple way that I can. Never met him but no man is an island. :)

Let me know the details and I'll chuck in $100.
That was a horror story and I'm more than happy to help out a fellow zeder.
I'm much happier weighing in for repairs than flowers for a funeral! Glad all are well, except the zed that is.

Wow. When I saw this thread today I have to admit I had tears in my eyes. For those of you who don't know me, here's a bit of background about my Z story and love affair with these cars.

I've always loved Z32's, from the moment I first laid eyes on one as a primary school kid but it wasnt until 2005 - I was 19 and working at my part time job at the cinema in Hobart. I fell in love with a blue 300ZX on carsales and I knew I had to have it! So I got out a loan, heart over head and purchased my baby. I was wrapt. Sure, it needed some work, there was a bit of front end panel damage but it was mine and I loved it.

But then one day, three months after buying it disaster struck. The temp gauge skyrocketed, and I immediately pulled over.

The verdict was a blown headgasket. I knew a friend of a friend who was a mechanic in Hobart and he offered to rebuild it for me, but it was going to mean more money. Again I went to the bank, got out another loan and any money I had left over from my paychecks each week went into buying parts for my broken Z. Because my mechanic working on the car after hours and at his parents place far from where he lived, progress was slow.

So slow that the rebuild took almost three years. Every week I would call or message him to find out how things were going, but eventually I became frustrated (as you would after waiting 2 and a half years) and told him that I wanted my car back. Keep in mind I probably had only gone to see my car a handful of times during this period, but nevertheless, I'd be on the computer, trawling aus300zx and looking at the photos of my zed and making future plans.

To cut a long story short, after lots of back and forth conversations we had a falling out and it was decided that I would come and pick up my car, engine back in, but still unfinished. I hired a trailer and took it back home and there it sat for another three months while I saved up and tried to find a mechanic who would work on it. Eventually I took it to a workshop in Hobart who specialised in 300ZXs, and booked it in to get it finished off. It ended up costing more than expected because the previous mechanic had forgotten to reattach the oil filter tree, and so the engine had to come back out again. But after a couple of weeks she was registered and ready :D I could not believe the moment had finally come!!!

And I cannot describe how amazing it was to finally have my TT back up and running again, I drove it every moment I could - still careful, as I didn't want her to be off the road ever again. As time passed thanks to this forum, I learnt lots about 300ZXs and bought bits and pieces to make it even better - I was hooked.

Then in 2008 I moved to Melbourne with my girlfriend, got a transfer with the cinema and brought my car up with me. I've met so many great zedders and have always looked forward to the VIC events section so I can hang out with people as passionate about 300ZXs as I am. I've found a great workshop that I can take my car (Brytech), and a fantastic crew who frequent there.

I guess its kind of ironic that it was on one of these Z events that I destroyed my car, what makes it even harder I guess is that I was so happy with where it was at mechanically; power, suspension brakes - sure, it was a little rough around the edges but the performance was there.. Not to mention I was only two more payments away from finally being debt free for the first time in five years.

I guess you could say that my time as a 300ZX owner has been a uphill struggle for the most part, but I'm a stubborn person when it comes to things I am passionate about. I'm sure many of you are the same, one good drive in your 300ZX can make up for months of mechanical hardship and heartache. Many of my family and friends don't understand how I can even be contemplating wanting another 300ZX after the years of struggle and almost losing my life in one not more than two weeks ago. But they don't get it, I'm obsessed. My love for Z's is as strong as ever, and I hope always to own one.

I really feel blessed to have such wonderful people around such as Bryan and Megan, Dave and Xavier, Rod and the rest of the aus300zx family being so supportive of me and for this I am forever grateful. It means so much that people I have never met would be so willing to contribute time, money or parts to my cause. If I can ever help any of you out please let me know and I will not hesitate to do so.

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for reading.

    -Martin :zlove:

If i wasn't 1500 or so K's away, i'd be there with bells on to help with any mechanical assistance. :(

There's a big family on here though, i'm sure many friendly folk will be able to get in and dirty to help get you put back together as i've seen from previous posts in this thread already. Great initiative guys! It's a breath of fresh air to see this comradery on here! :zlove:

Great story, I bet we can all relate to and understand your love affair.
By the looks of the support I think you'd better use my 100 towards drinks for the pit crew!
I'm more than happy to buy the drinks for those that care and are there helping you.
PM me your bank details and I'll throw it in.
Keep that attitude and you'll be zooming about in no time.
