    Hi All,

Well the car was running fine last night, then she struggled to start this morning and limped down the road. i decided to then leave it at home. Anyway i studied it tonight. she's throwing fuel out of the exhaust and she was smoking real bad (white, fuel smoke). there was also smoke from the back of the engine this morn. anyway i jacked her up tonight and it appears i've lost a nut off the passenger side turbo dump pipe. with the car idling there was fuel spraying out of the gasket between the turbo and the dump pipe.
I checked to see which cylinders were not firing by disconnecting the spark/coil plugs one by one. the rear cylinder on the passenger side is not firing and when i took the spark plug out it was very wet with fuel.

So basically i've decided that i have an electrical fault causing that injector to stay open or the injector is just stuffed.

So does anyone have any ideas or know what to do to fix this problem??

As a side note, the thermal/electric fan was coming on shortly after starting the car, whilst temp is cold, which of course does not normally happen.

well firstly you need to work out if it's leaking through the lower o-ring or if the injector it's self is staying open. Much more likely it's the O-ring. If not then it's possible you've had a short in the loom somewhere and burnt an injector driver in the ECU which can either leave an injector permenately on, or permenatley off.

To test your o-ring, un-plug the offending injector connector and see if you still have the over-fuelling problem. If your still not sure, put a fuel pressure guage on the line and if it drops immediately after shutdown then you have an o-ring leak. Be careful though, too much overfuelling can cause hydro lock and/or damage your piston rings.

Ah great that makes sense, thanks heaps Andy!!

    I'll try this out tomorrow.

She has hydro locked twice on cranking her after she's sat for a while, but never with the engine running after cranking. so when i try what you suggested tomorrow i'll first take the spark plug out and crank it to spray the fuel out of the cylinder.

:eek: Be careful, this is exactly what killed the motor in my Z. If it fires up and hydrolocks you will likely be forking out $10K for a new motor.

this almost killed a motor on a customers car , and at the very least it will be very harmfull to your piston ring life, id be disconnecting the fuel lines till you pull the injectors

Check ECU for error codes. Sounds like you might have code 13 (CTS) if your AUX fan is coming on. I've first hand witness code 13 stop cylinders from firing. Before you start doing anything drastic, this would be the first thing I'd do.

You don't need to crank the engine....

Pull ALL your sparkplugs and turn on your ignition, the fuel pump will prime the fuel rail and if you see fuel spraying into the cylinders (look down sparkplug holes), you know you are in trouble.

Using this method does NOT endanger your motor due to hydrolock.

    Thanks all!
so i pulled all the plugs and yes as thought it is just the one injector (rear passenger side) staying open. So i tried unpluging the connector with the ignition on, which stopped the flow of fuel.
So i must have some sort of electrical issue.
i checked the connector for resistance with a multimeter and it all seems ok but i've been told i should unplug the ECU and if the earth is still earthing then i may have a wiring short somewhere but if not then i might have a fault in the ecu.
Does this sound ok to everyone? makes sense to me, but any other ideas?
oh and there is no ecu error code for the injectors either.

    Yep. That's the next step.
