I couldn't think of a more creative title to this thread,

I have already searched for the answer here and I noticed a few thread where members have had similiar problems. I think member Anti if I remember correctly. my problem seems a bit simpler than that but im still stuck in an endless loop bouncing from the blue slip inspector, weird phone numbers, government departments and the RTA.

I have finally got the car ready for blue slip after all these months, so i booked it in today and was going all well untill the blue slip bloke told me i needed compliance papers or an old rego paper.

This is where it gets worse.

    By the way
I don't have the old rego papers and I can't get them, (the old NSW label is still on the windscreen from 2008 though)

I have already got a REVS check and documentation to go with it. it is all clear.

I also can't get hold of the original compliance papers.

So anyway, after discussing this with the inspector for a bit i decided to Ring the RTA and see what I could do.

The RTA said I didn't need any paper work regrading compliance since it had already been previously registed in NSW but if I really wanted to i was able to go and get the history of the vehicle if i go there and ask for a FORM 1200. (some paperwork about the history, i still don't get it)

So i drove to the RTA, after waiting 50 mins I finally got to explain the situation and ask for a FORM 1200 so i was told.

What i got was a funny look saying i don't need any form or compliance papers and to go back to the blue slip inspector and that he has to send off a form for the vehicle history and compliance. I told the dude at the RTA that the blue slip inspector refuses, he didn't really know what to do but suggested go to another blue slip place.

Why cant anyone give me a straight answer on what to do and why this is happening?

As far as i know everything should be fine, the car isn't getting changed state or anything and its been complied already.

Now I feel like chucking a tantrum like a 5 year old. lol

    Sorry for the long post,

    Can anybody please help

    As the RTA guy said

Find another blue slip guy !

The one you are seeing for the blue slip is a knob and doesnt know what he is doing.

The old sticker is enough proof that it has met compliance previously!

Move on and find a new blue slip guy that knows what he is doing - sorry you have been dicked around - thats the shit that happens

this. the RTA makes the rules, not the guy doing the blue slip.

clearly he doesn't know what he is doing and i wouldn't waste any more time with him.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

Even the blue slip guy says get another blue slip guy.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Yep i think i will take the advice and go book it in somewhere else.

I really hope it gets through somewhere else. I can't help this anxious feeling I get when they check it over.

Ok. Bad news. Still not good!

After a few more phone calls with the Department of Infrastructure and having a few of them hanging up on me, I have finally got a straight answer, but its not a good answer,

They are telling me, it doesn't need a compliance plate because it had an engineers certificate instead but...

I don't have a copy of the engineers certificate (The car has been unreg since 2008 and it didn't come with the car when I bought it)

He then said, If I can't find the original engineers certificate by tracking previous owners then I will have to PAY for a NEW one.:confused::mad:

He said there is no other way around it.

Now surely, like I mentioned in a previous post, the RTA says the car is fine and its already been complied. What is the problem.

Why should I have to pay for another engineer certificate for a stock car that has already been complied with the ADR's back when it got imported years ago??

Has anyone here got any more experience with something like this?

Please tell me there is another option... There must be another way around this... Its only stupid paperwork holding it up from being on the road. :br:

Where are you based. I know a guy that does inspections here in Brookvale that is a lot more flexible if you know what I mean. Let me know if you are interested.

Hmm, Im based in Picton, Southwest of sydney.

The car hasn't got any plates or anything, it might be a bit risky to drive that far unreg'd.

Could there still be a way?

  10. Anti

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

This is what happened to me - no proof of compliance, must be engineered.

There is no other way around it bar rebirthing the car. I considered my options, spent a few days getting quotes and once I found an agreeable price went and got the engineers certificate.

Just get a one day permit to drive it there, don't know if you can do that in nsw but you can in qld. Still costs about $70 for the permit tho

    Damn, so thats it,

Even though it's got proof of being registered previously in NSW?

If you don't mind me asking how much did the engineer certificate cost? Could you recommend any around Sydney?

    On another note......

Any engineers here keen write me a certificate for a few cases of your favourite drop. Or something..

I really don't want all this work i put in to be wasted, We need another Z on the road don't we? ;):zlove:

I just got my engineers papers yesterday and he charged me $650. So shop around, better than paying upwards of 1k.

Would you mind detailing the process of engineering,,, Such as what sort of things do they look at and possible fail points and stuff??

Or will the engineer just look at the things that need to comply with the ADR's?

I just really really don't want them to look to hard as my engine is nice and fresh but the cam covers are kinda leaking a bit of oil down the block, nothing too serious, But Im assuming they will tell me to fix that before proceeding,
My plan was to pull the plenum to fix it though. Along with the timing belt whilst im there, but i kinda wanted to just get it registered first.

hmm this is rather disturbing. i say this because mine has been unreg'd for 2+ years and when it comes to registering it again i'll have to go through all this too.

what year is the car? do you know if it was originally a 15 year old import under the old scheme (usually 89, 90 and very rarely a early 91) or is it a newer SEVS import? it's common for 15 year old imports to not have compliance plates on it.

would i be right in guessing if you just had old rego papers all of this could have been avoided?

    Hi mate,
before you go and spend all of your money on an engineers certificate, please at least try this.
I was in the same situation as you a few weeks ago when I bought my s13 from Canberra. Because it came from interstate, it needed to be blue slipped to get rego up here, thats when I found out that it doesn't have compliance plates.

After a lot of calling around, i found it had been rego'd in NSW previously, but i still didn't have any sort of documentation.
The RTA told me that I'd have to get an engineers certificate.

Now, because it had been complianced before, the engineers certificate was on file at the RTA. So I had to submit an application for it to be released to me (cost $30 and a 2 week wait).
Once that was all sent off, I played the waiting game. Now about a week ago, I got a letter in the mail, a copy of my engineers cert :D

Saved myself a shit tonne of money now that i didn't have to get the car re-engineered.

mate I am pretty sure you can drive an unregistered car for anything to do with the re registration of it, but you need an appointment or a booking at that place on brookvale just go in the middle of the day when the traffic is less and get the not so serious one to get it done, should be fine
