Hey does anyone know how to change the back light that shows 300ZX, i got an import 300zx 1993 and when i used to put my lights on it used to show 300zx lighten up in green between the break lights but it doesnt anymore .... does anyone know how to change the light or replace it?? thanks
light When i turn the light on you can see only the edge of the word Z like 3cm long shows and nothing else.
The EL panel is rooted You'll prolly notice a high-pitched whine from the inverter if you have the doof doof turned off. Reason why only a small part glows: the EL panel wiring connection comes loose & arcs, then burns thru the EL panel +ve stripe, so only a small part now gets power. It can be repaired but it's fiddly, fraught with hassles & IMHO not worth it.
EL panels are hard to get locally. do a google search and you should be able to find a supplier overseas. i think they are about $80. but then once you have a new panel, the REAL fun (and i'm being sarcastic) is getting the panel apart, as it is stuck together with what i believe is the stickiest substance known to man. it requires the use of a heat gun, and a lot of patience to do. I have done this myself and would offer to help you but you are in NSW
Re: fix Im going to be trying mine soon, and if my repair works out, I will write a tech article for it. I have heard the explaination of the fix, and it is going to be just as hard as the tech article on clearing the tail lights, as they are both held together by tar. It is a big job, and you will need to take all day to do it right.
I've fixed mine......>> It wasn't as hard as I was expecting. I've now got Max's to do so looks like I'll get a bit more practice.
Practice!.... You'll dont need the practice Pete, i know u'd do a good job. Then you can sell your NON-illuminated panel(Which is on my car) to Col Max:thumbsup:
Do all Zeds have the EL Panel? Or is it some kind of after market fitting? I don't think mine works anymore if I have one. Never noticed it being on at any time. Would look cool I suspect. How can you check it? Cheers
Correct.......>> They were an option offered by dealers, along with an assortment of other parts that light up, like scuff plates and quater window inserts. I must be getting old because the name of the company that made them has totally slipped my mind. The rear panels actually look slightly different around the lettering, and once you have seen one and know what to look for they are pretty easy to tell apart.
I'm pretty sure Altia is the name ... They were owned by Nissan until 2000, and are now an independent company. In many ways very similar to the mob I work for here in Melbourne.
Pete.... Pete you are already old  and dementia is the term when you lose your memory Max:thumbsup:
Dementia can be cured by having you butt kissed by a drivelling idiot. Are you listening Max???:LOL::LOL:
