    hey guys
today i noticed my temp rising so pulled over and heard a strange gurgling sound coming from in the radiator somewhere and water dripping down under my dash and my windshield fogged up:(.
    is this the heater core?
and if so how much will it cost to fix it?

{just lucky i didnt fry the engine;)

    Bad luck mate!

cause thats what happens when the H/core goes, Look in the tec section for the repair details, if your going to do this yourself, take both frount seats out it gives much more room to work in, doing the dash in repair way. Im not sure what it costs at A/C repaires, but its a prick off a job, it wont be cheep.

dave .. first up get a TWD ... virtually essential to overcome the

notorious shortcomings of the zed oem temp gauge (TWD = temperature warning device .. available from forum member, k-zed) ...

i purchased my heater core from PHILLIP RADIATORS in the ACT ...aluminium .. overnight delivery, $190 all up .. good service...

you can do a by-pass, not excessively difficult, until you are ready to r/r the core ... this will leave you without a heater or demister but you will have a/c...

to have the core replaced by a workshop will cost you heaps ..possibly $800-$1000.. there are a number of tech articles/threads on the subject (including the by-pass), with considerable discussion on whether it is best to remove the dash or go in from under the dash .. mine was done w/o removing the dash by two brilliant, young, budding zed specialists up here ( ben x 2 ) ..

there is an outside, but unlikely, possibility that you could also need a heater core tap .. and this costs a bomb .. but you will not know this until you get the core out..

good luck with whatever you decide ...

Manual TT you have to take the dash out

Mate tried to do mine without taking the dash out as per tech sect but that is for an auto clutch peddle gets in the way

It's pretty simple to remove the clutch pedal.

First things first. Do the "bypass".

That will keep you mobile until you decide which way to go from here.
In spite of Baz's obvious enthusiasm for the TWD (which is a great item), it is not going to assist you with your current problem, nor will a "Chili Brace".:LOL:

Had mine replaced 2 months ago

i started getting a slow leak on hot days which was as sure a sign as any that my heatercore was on its last legs. didn't want to risk getting stranded when it finally shat itself so i wanted to get it fixed before it became a major issue.

i've got a manual and i didn't want to risk breaking anything so i opted to have my mechanic do a complete dash out job. its real pricey, but you can pretty much guarantee that it'll be done properly and that you won't have to go back and re-tighten a hose that wasn't completely on etc. further down the track.

cost for me was a for a new heatercore, tap assembly and labour which all up amounted to just over 1k. Expensive but a necessary evil.
