Hi all I hope everyone has been enjoying their motoring and making the most of it. :)

    I am after a few questions and have looked both in the search and on the net and are really confused now, so wondering if any of you guru's can shed some light;

    1) I have installed hid's into my low beams before I do my high beams, and have read that our projectors are not really designed for that. Would I be better off getting hid projectors?
    2) if so there are many after market 1's available, I assume as long as the low beam is 80mm in diam. then I should be ok, is this correct or is there any preference?
    3) Has anyone tried to do a mod on the high beams by fitting either a larger projector ( round ) in place of the square/
    4) I see that on some of the usa sites you can get same size square hid lens's would that be a better improvement?
    5) A while back there was a member or 2 or where making headlight lens without any markings/ripples, where can I get them now/ I have searched high and low with no luck.

Well thats about it but any feed back or suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks and all drive safely but remember, "Only way to grow old is disgracefully, thats really living":br::rofl:

As I see it, you have 2 basic choices

    1. Retrofit HIDs to your current headlight assemblies
    2. Buy 2000Spec Headlights
With choice number 1 (99 percent of us that do the conversion), the headlights become so awesome that there is no real need to go to any perceived "next level".

However, if you want to really get excited, just convert all 3 sets (lows, highs and fogs).
Then night = day anyway :)

I have seen people replace the high beam rectangular reflector lights with projectors.

I haven't seen any rectangular HID 'lenses', but I haven't really been looking :p

I would put normal HID's in the standard high beams as you turn your high beams off when approaching other traffic. You haven't really got any issues.

Well 2 replies is better than none.thanks guys. Was thinking soon of actually doing all the lights to hid projectors anyway. Yeah chrispy if you look on e-bay in the usa, they make square hid projectors and same size as our highs also. My only concern was that they have their own glass covering and fitting them then the rippled glass also may give a either a diffused or refracted light, as in 2 sets of glass, hence wondering on plain smooth headlight lens but not having any luck.

that's just a HID projector stuck inside a 7x6 housing. you could try and get that projector into the stock housing somehow. the whole lot is cheap enough so if you bugger it up just bin it.

our high beams are a reflector housing and the light pattern is pretty rubbish. (below is not a 300ZX obviously but HID bulbs in a reflector, mmm look at that big hot spot).

Sadly, it's because most of us are so blown away by the improvement, that we never bother to go to the next level.
Part and parcel of the Z having such "Piss Poor" lights from factory.

I am looking at this myself at the moment.

What are peoples recommendations on brands, suppliers, power and colour for highbeam / lowbeam and fogs lights?

Personally I have 35W 4300K HIDs in both high and low beams, together with the pexmod (use Search) which keeps the low beams on when going to high beam. Never bothered with the fogs, but many have.

The overall affect is just sensational. To support Pex, once you have done that you just tick the box on lighting and move on to something new. No need to go further.

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Curiosity got the better of me some time back and I got a pair of those "projector" sqare headlights for the "ute of death".

They are simply a square "crystal" type of reflector headlight (clear glass and the reflector does all the beam focussing) with a big-arsed round chunk of glass stuck inside them that does absolutely squat.
You'll get exactly what you pay for............

    Yer m8.
The only real way youll be able to convert to true projectors is to buy something like:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-HID-G3-XENON-Headlight-Bulb-and-Projector-Lens-H4-/280518763105?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item415038a261

Gut out your existing reflectors and replace.

Trouble is the vast majority of these projectors are designed for low beam use with that really defined cutoff and wide beam angle.
Ive not actually been able to find a pair of projectors designed specifically as long range driving ligts as yet.

    Cheers

Found a set of 80cm projectors with angel eyes for $100, and also rentangular hid reflec.tors, but they are asking around $300-$400 a set.
may get 2 sets of 80 mm projectors and do a retro fit into housing
