I had this spare set of headlights from my parts car and thought i would have a play. The removal of the headlights is pretty rough, its front bar off and 4 bolts each. Then dissasembling the headlights is also tricky. You have to heat all the goo up around the glass so you can release it from the groves. Lots of other little brackets and junk to pull off too. So here is a pic after i removed the glass. This is with the insert out (2 screws and 2 locator pins) These are the rings around the low beam projectors (3 screws) Undercoat of Filler spray then rubbed it til it was smooth. Painted them bronze with heat resistant paint. This is so i can match them to my rims and calipers which will also be bronze. With the glass resting on. I have 2 sets of lights, current ones in black and these so its a simple switch in and out. I can always recolour them so no biggie. But ill throw them in and see how they look when i get the rims. Enjoy! Matt :zlove:
:br: Looks good Murci, should look even better when you do the rims and pads, wanna come and do mine in silver chrome ??
The goo doesnt go runny, it just gets soft and breaks off almost. same stuff as the indicators, fogs.... Reseal you just reheat if back up and hope you have a good seal. Otherwise i have some black goo in a roll left over from when i bought my 2k tails. Failing that. sikflex 227 for the permanent seal haha.
OK Thanks. I would prefer something other than sikflex 227 incase I needed to get back inside to clean.
Nice mate. I wonder how good red colour in them would look like with the car. With red calipers. Imagine!!!
Hey mate looks the goods...want to do this with mine but in red ....just thought i'd mention don't need to pull the front bar for the lights...can be accessed through the nose panel and by pulling off the guard a bit in the wheel wells...saves alot of hassle!
How difficult is it to separate the glass from the frame? I want to give cleaning the projectors a go and see if the light quality improves and maybe even look at putting in an aftermarket projectors. Also, anyone have any idea whatever happened to that guy in the US that was planning to make the glass without any diffusers (or whatever they're called) in the glass? MoulaZX
They are "flutes" Gargoyle is getting polycarbonate lenses made up and the guy can do more too once he sorts out the first set.
Mildly difficult. You just have to heat the goo around all the edges and pry it open. If you ever decide to do it, have a practice on jap side markers. some of those lines are used for lining up your headlights when making adjustments btw.
hahahahahaha eastern states version of me hahahaha well done matt, Once i get settled and setup i will share some more ideas with you and maybe and add twist of your own keep the zed love going :zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove:
I like to fiddle like you. I might actually respray them in KH2 (gunmetal grey). So what else did you have in there? Inbuild indicators? LED parkers? angel eyes? Matt. :zlove:
Cant give all the secrets away till i have pics of them working, but i will be more than happy to pm you and tell u some ideas that we have going for them share some combined knowledge is always a good thing .
