    Not sure

Are they Z-specific headlight adjusters? Because ours are the little gears that you turn with the screw at the back of the light inside the bonnet, as seen here:

Challenge! Anyone able to guess whose hands these are? :)

    Nice!
I was going through the service manual last week for some wiring information and there is quite a bit on the headlight beam adjusters. I just figured they must be a US only thing as i've never seen or heard of them on zeds here.

Basically they let you electrically adjust your headlight aim up and down from a switch inside the car.
Probably not all the useful on a 300 but definatly good for trucks and vehicles that do alot of towing. Hate those 4X4 guys towing huge boats and stuff that weighs the back of their car down and puts their headlights right through your back window! :mad2:

These would make HID's street legal on a zed.

Please tell us what brand they are etc etc etc.

    Those are my hands?

Those are my hands in the second pic possible, and maybe Andrew G's or RedZedMikey's in the first? So long ago....

The headlight adjusters are a US-spec thing, J-Spec or Aus-spec cars never had them. US headlights appear to have less adjustment available then J-Spec and Aus-spec's, when they first saw a tech article I wrote about replacing the gears and some other stuff they were all confused as hell about what I was talking about :)

I got a set also - but bad news

I understand that they are aiming devices that fit over the front of the headlight to help in the fine tuning of the headlight levels, I understand they only work on the USA lights which have some small raised bumps or "pimples" cast into the outside of the headlight glass ... and thus are not applicable to European or J spec cars.

But i could be totally wrong !

After my new tire install the cars level has changed slightly precipitating the need to adjust my lights a bit higher. Fortunately the long adjusters for the Up/Down of the main beam work, as do the Up/Down for the high beam. But the Left/Right adjusters for both the main beam and the high beam just spin and have no resistance whatsoever.

    Is it fixable?
Does it entail having to remove the light unit?
If memory serves me, isn't there a fix wherein someone replaced/repaired those geared adjusters using some RC model wheel gear set from Tamiya (sp)?
I'd like to try and move both the Main and High beams to the right a bit since they are designed to illuminate the left side of the road.
    Ideas, suggestions, comments?

Yes and yes, you have to pull the lights out to really do good job of fixing this problem.

I would have thought to get a RHD car registered in a LHD country, you would have had to fit LHD headlights? That's what I would recommend if you want to change the light pattern.

Normally, the JDM imports require the DRL (Daytime running Lights) mod to be certified. The beam pattern was for the most part OK until I went to larger tyres in the rear. I've adjusted them a pinch to bring them up higher and thought I'd continue by trying to bring the pattern just slightly more to the right. Unfortunately, the gears in the side to side adjusters for both main beam and high beam just spin freely. The USDM has only one adjuster for up and down that moves both main and high beams at the same time.
I think eventually, I'll have mine retrofitted with e46 HID projectors anyway.

No you don't have to take the lights out to adjust the lights unless the adjusters are buggered, which is quite possible. The little gears inside the adjusters are mode of plastic and just break apart and no longer work.

I can't find the tech article that shows the repairing of the headlight adjuster gears with Tamiya gears.

    Well, for Pete's sake.

Thanks Col. And I was just in that same tech area too. It wasn't in the area I thought it would be. The one mentioning the Tamiya gears had dead pics on it.
    Many thanks again.
