So I missed out on the lebo lunch . Would have loved to gone for a good feed but couldn't stay away from haunted hills after sandeep convinced me into going. Here is my wrap up of the day.

Early start, had to get up @ 5ish, met up around 6AM and and we drove for 2 hours to Morwell. Not a bad drive in the morning actually.

Some of the competition... these guys were serious, we were shocked just about every single rexy owner brought slicks and started changing tyres before scrutineering

I quite liked how just about all of the cars there were clean, no fuss track cars. Bad news is they're all much faster than your average ricer.

My PB for the day. This was a final "unofficial" 9th run which I snuck in because I refused to go home without doing one more run after all the effort of changing tyres during session 7. Unfortunately, they didn't add this time to the final list as it would be unfair to all those who didn't stick around to keep running.

And for those interested in results, here is a final breakdown: http://wrx.com.au/ms/2010HHR1Times.pdf

Myself and sandeep were in the non WRX club member 3L and under class. a BIG thanks goes out to sandeep for letting me use his tyres for the final runs and helping me swap it over.

should've made a detour back along the coast and visited me you bums :p
Looks like you had fun out there, wouldn't mind going out there one day myself.

Did you go down the monash through warragul and beyond, or down the south gippy through leongatha etc?

    quick and stupid question..

whats with the green stickers on your fogs and head lights?
i dont see it on any other car.. or is it me?

is that compulsory for tracking like the batt stickers and fuel filler etc?

any glass bits on the front needs to be covered in a film so they don't shatter after a crash.

    65? Not bad at all!

When you say you swapped tyres with Sandeep, what tyres were they?

    Great time.

    What did Sandeep get?

Thanks Peter, check this PDF link for a breakdown of times. sandeep and myself are under AU3.

I got down to 1:06 on my 3rd run but couldn't bring it down any further. The sun came out, track temps rose and my rubbish 2nd hand tyres were losing traction very quickly particularly the rears.

Tried to compensate by changing suspension setting but that didn't work and times got worse.

Sandeep had electrical issues with his alternator and lent me his RE001s. We were going to change all 4 but the fronts didn't clear my brakes so I settled for rears only and went out for 2 more runs. Instead of lots of oversteer, the more grippy rears shifted to understeer but at least I could push harder.

I'm slightly disappointed I couldn't have a go with the RE001s on all 4s. Might have just nudged into 1:04 but overall I was satisfied with the day.

Yeah if they had put the balancing weights in the rights spot then you would have been fine to run my wheels on the front, would have been interesting to see the improvement.

Did you get my PM Peter? I need to return those bonnet pins to you.
I made a post in the motorsports forum thread, my best time was 69.08. But yeah, as mike said, I decided to park it after 6 runs since the battery light came on. Ended up sorting itself out so I should have kept running, now I have unfinished business. I want to go again soon while the track is still sort of fresh in my mind.

It was exactly as I imagined after watching the videos on youtube.

Track is essentially a series of S curves connected by short straights with 3 hairpins to finish up. First run I got caught out slightly. I braked coming over the crest onto the final straight as I couldn't see ahead and forgot it was a straightaway.

I did as Peter Black said and stayed in second. Experimented on a few laps and grabbed 3rd for a second or two on the final straight but it didn't lead to faster times so I stopped doing it. Rode out 2nd gear on the limiter before diving into the hairpin turns.

After that the only thing that had me worried every single time was the oh sh*t corner where there's a huge dip. Coming over the hill I stayed to the RHS, over the crest I crept towards the LHS then brake hard into the tight pair of consecutive S curves.

I found the best time were when I didn't lift and stayed flat on the throttle through oh shit but unfortunately the NA ratios didn't match as well as I hoped. Once you are past the summit the drop is so steep the engine revs up very quickly and I am basically on the limiter for a few seconds before braking. Spoke to a few people driving S14s and their ratios matched much better as their 2nd gear peaked around 115KPH where as in the NA the top of second is 105 or so.

One mistake I made on one of the laps was braking too early. When you go over the crest the car is very light (see this pic). Car is close to airbourne, when I braked the car got badly unsettled due to little weight on the tyres. Sandeep made the same mistake on 1 of the laps and can attest how scary it was.

Overall it's a great track and I've love to do it again. Just wished I took up chris' offer of lending me his Toyo 888s. Sandeep said slicks would put me in another class so I ran street tyres but clearly the WRX club didn't care for the intruder classes as the top 2 finishers in our class were running semi's :(

Those are some great times guys. It is a very challanging track to drive and quick times come after practice. I really like the circuit and look forward to getting back there again this year. Hopefully the FPV will team up with the NDSOC for another fun day like last year.......and yes Col, you have to come.
