    Some have done it

I've seen quite a few guys do it to AE86s. All they do is leave off the drivers side wiper, and replace the passenger side wiper with a longer one from a different model car.
This way it reaches all the way across the windcreen with one sweep.
I don't know if it would work on a Zed, havn't really studied the wiper patterns.

How can that work???? Think about it. A longer arm will still stop at the same point and simply wave above the windscreen. Not to mention hanging out over the edge when in the 'off' position.

The required mod would be to pull out the existing setup and position a new wiper mechanism in the centre - one with an almost 180deg arc of travel, enough to sweep the windscreen from the base at one side to the base at the other. Maybe something out of an old Merc could be adapted. A lot of work and IMHO hardly worth the trouble. You would also end up with an unswept top corner area right in front of the driver, reducing visibility.

The nearest I ever got to this was modding a Mini Cooper S to have three wipers. It was a simple mod back in those days. Worked a treat.

You can do it using the original wiper arm and blade,

I made a mock-up a few years ago, but never got around to building the finished product. It involves making a couple of swivelling brackets with parallel arms, and looks very much like the wipers on some Le Mans cars (the wiper blade stays just about vertical as it travels from side to side). I'll try and find it after I come back from my trip overseas (we'll be gone for about three weeks).

Juice!! Mercedes used single arm on their late 80's coupe...

one of the smaller ones, can't remember which model exectly...find a euro wreck and grap one...it's designed to do it all in one sweep, cheaper than fabricating, might have to change the hole diameter in the wiper arm, but it should be pretty close. Been thinking of doing this mod for a while.

Can I ask what the purpose of this mod would be?

    is it weight reduction/wind resistance?

or do you guys just reckon it'd look good?

    RE: Mercedes

I had a look at my friend's '88 300E, and the single arm mechanism is one seriously large and complex piece of machinery. in addition to cutting the cowlings, you'll probably need to do some modifications to the windscreen gutter in order to make it fit properly. Due to the eccentric motion of the arm, it looks like it'd also interfere with the trailing edge of the bonnet too.

I wouldn't attempt this mod - too much effort for too little gain - but hey, each to their own.

Their new ones do as well, ours has a single arm but the way it works

is very wierd, it isn't a semi-circle motion, it goes out, up then down then up then out and down again. You really have to see how it works to know what I mean. I doubt you could do it on a Z and have it work properly.
The wipers also slow down and speed up depending on the speed you travel as well which I thought was pretty cool :p
