trying to replace my hand brake boot. ive taken all visible screws out but the centre console seems to be stuck down. i can get my fingers under it but to me it feels like its screwed in from the bottom.

i checked the forum but all descriptions for getting the centre console out dont mention anything like this.

    any ideas???

Did you get the screws under the carpet in the console? how about the one in the ash tray? Of course you have already taken the radio surround off so if you have all of them then the only think left is to pull firmly to unclip it.

yea, ive already taken the centre console off with the mirror controles and smoko, but the under layer with the fabric attached will not budge, its like its screwed on from underneath the storage tray or somehting...u just think a huge pull will unclip it all??? i dont wanna snap my upholstry...

have you unclipped the cig lighter and globe for the ash tray? it has two tabs which go under the glove box so make sure you pull it away towards the front of the car, also there are those screws right in the middle under the inner carpet lining withtin the glove box? still stuck?

YES! pull the thin grey carpet up that sits INSIDE the centre console! Look carefully! - it usually comes up easier from one end?......can't remember if it's the front or the back? Once you lift this up there is 2 Philips head screws in the base holding it down!

yea i did...huge improvement...also ordered a original stock shifter to get rid of the crabby red ball that came with.

thinking about spraying my besel plate around the cd player red aswell as the power window panels to match the color of the car, what you think???

It's a VERY hard thing to learn what parts are screwed in a what are spring loaded.

    Same applies to computer parts

Please don't, painted colours on the inside plastics of the car almost always look tacky. Subtlety is good... not sure what shifter you ordered but there is an oem one that has red stitching instead of black, looks f**king classy :D

You probably drop the value of the car by $1000 by a tacky modifications like that.

It is not easy to improve on what hundreds of engineers and designers have spent years on (except for cost cutting solutions)

I ban you from painting it red, nearly always looks bad :p

good to hear you got it sorted.

on the topic of painting inside the car.... I say NO

the first z I ever checked out had the stereo and GLOVE BOX painted red, it even smelt like cheap $2 spray paint all inside the car.... so I walked away and never looked back.

Best would be genuine carbon fibre not stick on or leave as is, however I have seen some nice white coloured stereo pieces
