I'm rebuilding my lifters, with the help of this.. http://tech.aus300zx.com/ with a great set of instructions..

Only problem is they say to soak them in Gunk Carburetor & Parts Cleaner, I went to Supercheap and they only had carby clean in a aerosol can (which doesn't do any thing) I need to know where abouts I can buy a can of this stuff.

The guys at work suggested mixing kero and diesel.. But I'm not to sure about that?

    Any help would be great..

"I use Gunk Carburetor & Parts Cleaner for all of my smaller engine parts that need to be cleaned. It comes with a parts basket that is perforated on the bottom to allow the cleaning solution to drain out when you remove the basket. This solution works incredibly well for engine parts. For your own protection, be sure to read the hazardous materials warnings on the container - this is not something you want to get on you. You can pick this up from any auto parts store for about $8 a can. "

I couldnt get a dip can either.

So bought 4 cans of aerosol and sprayed it into a paint tin. Then shoved them in. Worked great. Took about 3 days soaking to bring them all back to new.

I bought two empty paint cans one 5 litre and a 3 litre drilled holes in the bottom of the 3 litre put it inside 5 litre filled with degreaser let them sock for a couple of days pull the 3litre can out and your ready to go...

If you are following that tech article dont put too much oil in the lifters when putting back together.

I just use good old petrol, its easier to dry off with compressed air than kero solvents.

Yamaha Carburetor Cleaner works very well on the lifters (especially in an ultrasonic cleaner) but you don't want to leave them in the solution overnight, or they go a dull grey.

When it comes to rebuilding the lifters, the tech article method will have the lifters over extended.
    • Only fill lifter body until top of spring
    • When you fully compress check valve assembly into lifter body, keep compressed and drain oil from check valve assembly
This will give you a small amount of compression in the assembled unit.

Rang the local yamaha dealer here, and they had heard of it but said it was a old item that they dont stock any more? another reason to move from townsville, you cant get any thing you need..

I've stripped the lifters, after the first couple they just fell apart :) and are soaking in a bucket with kero, pterol and some degreaser. The mechanics at work recommended it. They are coming up clean really quick :)

    Thanks for your help guys..

Just pulled the parts out of the bucket.. Came up really clean..

Fuel, kero and degreaser for 24hrs done the trick :) not as shiny as above but they are clean..

Just rebuit the lifters.. was easy as.. found it easier to sit on the table and push it all together when it flat on the table.. then clicking it in once finished.. oh and I had asyringe to put oil the oil in the spring to save making a mess..

built all 24 lifters back together in 30min :)
