Been a few months since I've had BADZX out for a spin....... well actually the last GOR was its last run

yeah lifes been busy and my back hasnt really healed well enough to take the shake n bake of BADZX's "sports suspension"

So I figured I should give her a run in the cool nights air and maybe have a little play, noticed a little grinding noise on initial start up, the slightest increase in RPM shut the noise down instantly, lift the foot and let it idle and the scraping was back the instant idle was acheived.

At first I thought it was probaly the belts, little bit of corrosion on the pulleys from sitting for so long might have been what the noise was, yet when I opened the bonnet it seemed more bearing related...... passengers side down low is the area...... again, lift the rpm ever so slightly and it instantly disappears

so what ever...... we is going 4 a dwibe

didnt get too far...... maybe 4k's

engine would run fine and would pull ok if slight throttle pressures are applied, give it a foot-well full and it crackles and farts something shocking, even spitting flames out the back

even crusing at 60kph down the main drag see's it lumping over like a fullblown rail car, certainly turns heads.... its running that 'LUMPY'

are they related ...... (I'm thinking CAS )

or should I be looking at a bearing and a set of plugs
BADZX has always had a good appetite for sparkplugs, chews through a set every 3000k's on average

or should I man up and accept that my back is poohbar and sell my baby to someone that has the time and spine to love and obey her ????
I've actually quit the 4x4's allready, simply cant take the punishment of the 'offroad' experiance....... the rally car's is ok tho, doesnt bother me at all.

Spitting flames  how awesome! If its lumpy sounding I would imagine one of your cylinders is down? Running on 5? Extra fuel in a cylinder that's not firing at igniting in the exhaust by the sounds of that?

Also mine ran very similar after I blew a boost hose off and coated the O2 sensors in fuel. Not saying you blew a boost hose but the running like shit might be a symptom of a secondary problem caused by whatever the main problem is.

So Kingy, from what you're saying - car was fine on the GOR run, no hint of an issue.
Then after a few months of not being driven ( shame on you :p ) it misbehaved.

The grinding noise that went away when you lifted the revs, did it come back if you held the higher revs steady?

Noise could be the lower idler on the lhs of the engine. Under the air con pump arrangement. They get noisy like that. Give it a squirt with crc and see what happens. Ours has this issue. As for the backfiring and fueling problem. Best to do a general run down of all primary functioning plugs. Cas, coils, injectors. Usual stuff. Then agreed give the afm a wash with electrical parts cleaner. Maybe with the cool weather moistures got to the hot wire and it's affecting thd reading. Plugs wouldn't quiet do as you're describing even if they are expired. Coppers i guess?

Good call Sanouske and ezzupturbo. I was trying to join the dots from Kingy's fault description, looking for just one culprit.

But it could be two seperate issues given that he's been too old and infirm to drive his Zed and it's sat neglected for so long :D

Luv you Kingy, get young soon mate :zlove:

( waiting for the abuse now...)

    pot callin the kettle .....

    Grinding noise solved....... [IMG]

did my OLD MANS TRICK of enginebay inspection in the dark...... ;)
(always shows ugly sparkplug lead leaks or other little hot spots much easier)

constant fine spray of burning material was spotted instantly, lift the throttle slightly and the grind went and so did fine spray of little sparks....

    replacement aircon pump ordered

a slight odour of burning clutch plate was also present after a few minutes of running

will investigate the fueling up issue tonight......
Its that bad that I have 2 blacker than black spots on the shed door from the cannons......
The Charger always does that too but its only got 2.5" system and not a 4" tip ... the zed has 'sprayed' out the chargers spots, obviously marking its territory

very strong unburnt fuel smell throughout the shed after a few mins of running, had to e-vac...... plus it was past my nap time

    :p

    CAS checked -> passed
