    Grenfel Something is missing...

    Introduction:
My pride and joy is up for sale (depression and anxiety is next week?s special). Some of you will be familiar with this car, others won?t. I will be advertising her elsewhere - carsales, eBay, that sort of thing. Anyone who is interested in the vehicle should contact me - even if $14K is out of your price range as I am negotiable and can remove the stereo, etc. I am not at this point interested in a trade though as I already own another car.

    My Contact Details:
My name is Shaun and I live on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Feel free to contact me through any of the following methods:
    • Home Phone 07 5441 7515
    • Mobile Phone 0438 773 288
    • Email: grenfel@tpg.com.au
    • PM me through this site

Reason for Sale: Heading to Japan for a year (at least) - I don?t really want her in storage that long - she is better off finding a new home?

    Car Location: Sunshine Coast, Queensland

    Asking Price: $14,000

Rego: Is due 23/03/07 - I will put the full 12 months worth on so - 03/2008

    Base Stats:
    • Model: 1989 Twin Turbo 300ZX (GCZ32) July model from memory (or was it June?) First month of production whatever it was? Complied in Aus 26/08/04.
    • Colour: Charcoal Pearl (KH2)
    • Seats: 2+2
    • Odometer: 73K KM (~35K KM on import + ~38K KM in Aus)
    • Gearbox: Auto - serviced twice whilst I?ve owned it
    • Roof: ?Targa? top or T-Top (some people find the suggestion that a Zed is a Targa Top offensive)

    Appearance:
    • Kit: Bomex all round (Done by previous owner). Stock rear upper spoiler/wing.
    • Wheels: 18?x8? XHP Saber Wheels from The Tyre Factory Maroochydore
    • Tinting: Darkest legal tint all round done by RTC 4x4 Nambour

    Mods/Things of Note:
    • Series II PTU relocated to near fuse box
    • Front Strut Brace
    • RDA 909 Front Rotors (Slotted)
    • Bendix Ultimate brake pads x4
    • Speed Chime disabled (Although Reverse Chime hasn?t been yet - I guess it didn?t even come close to annoying me as much as the speed alert chime :p )
    • KZed Modified Cruise Control
    • KZed TWD (Temperature Warning Device)
    • Chili Brake Brace (firewall flex was particularly bad on this car)
    • Heater core has been bypassed? (So Climate Control doesn?t really work) A/C works quite well though?
    • Brant Nemesis System (6 Point Immobilise Running from Dual Auto Arming Systems - One Remote and 1 Keypad - with two separate alarms)
    • Unifilter Air Filter
    • EGR Bypass
    • Plenum Coolant Bypass
    • 2 tyres done < 4,500 KM
    • 2 tyres will be brand new (will buy them this coming week)
    • New battery - bought less than a month ago

Stereo (Total cost $3031 Jan 2006):
    • Alpine Head Unit (CDA9853) ($699)
    • Polk Momo 10? DVC Subwoofer (Low Que) ($299)
    • Alpine Amp - 4x75 V12 ($599)
    • Pioneer 6?x9? Kevlar Splits (TS-C160R) ($385)
    • Custom form work for tweeters, sub and amp with new floor in hatch. And all materials and labour related to install ($1049)
    • All work done by Sound in Motion, Nambour

This next bit is a bit tedious - I recommend only reading it if you are interested in the car and want to get a feel for its history
Service/Work Done (other than oil/filter at least every 5000KM):
    • 100K KM (Cost $3825): Performed at 50K KM by Gavin Wood Auto Tech on the Gold Coast in March 2005. All the usual stuff but things of note (if you care):
[*]?All? cooling system hoses replaced (some where missed - CBZX and I caught them on a later ?plenum pull? and have been replaced now - thanks CBZX)
[*]Replace all injector plugs (also replaced all connectors of the same design such as TPS plug) 11 in total
      [*]Radius arm bushes replaced
[*]Radiator end tanks replaced and radiator rodded
      [*]Brakes flushed and bled
      [*]Diff oil drained and replaced
[*]Replaced timing belt, seals, crank gear, water pump, thermostat and idler bearings
      [*]New belts
      [*]New platinum tipped spark plugs
      [*]New air, fuel, oil filters
    • Auto Trans Service (Cost $132): Performed at 60K KM by The Transmission Centre Underwood in July 2005. Everything A-OK
    • 2x Services by ZedCare (Zed4Life): for general maintenance and some aftermarket installations?
    • A Plenum pull by CBZX and myself: at about 68K KM in April 2006 where we did the following:
[*]Replaced the couple of coolant hoses that Gavin Wood?s apprentices had missed. Replaced ALL fuel hoses under the bonnet including the ones that run under the heat shield near the passenger side turbo. Replaced quite a few of the vacuum/boost hoses that run around the engine bay as well as removing quite an amount of the excess metal that sits on the plenum.
      [*]Plenum Coolant Bypass
[*]EGR Bypass. Welded shut the holes in the plenum.
      [*]Replaced fuel filter
      [*]Replaced radiator core
[*]Oh, and although it?s not plenum related we did bleed the brakes again
    • Auto Trans Service (Cost $191): Performed at 70K KM in August 2006 by Ron Hill Automatics Maroochydore. Everything A-OK

    When I Bought it:
The vehicle was supposed to have been in storage for many years in Japan before it was brought over to Aus. The condition when KZed, Zed4Life and I inspected it when I bought it seemed to agree with the low KM and lack of use. It ranked an 8/10 when I bought it on the KZed Zed quality scale? :D

OK - so the bad news:
About 9 months ago it was backed into by another car whilst parked. The impact was on the driver?s side rear quarter panel - was repaired by Trueline Smash repairs in Nambour
The vehicle was used for a while as a daily driver and as such got a fair amount of sun exposure. As such it is suffering from the usual problems - dash lifting; wiper paint fading; external trim strips exposing chrome; a few bits and pieces of glue on the internal trim have let go? The trim where the T-top release lever is has come completely away on the driver?s side and is coming off on the passenger?s side. I have however ordered new ones through Cresta so I should be able to get it fixed before she is sold.
And the big one: the rear spoiler had some work done on it before I owned it and whatever it was packed with has disintegrated. The usual ?cancer? bubbling is occurring as well. Please see the photos for the damage? I may get around to fixing this if it is taking a while to sell the car.
And of course there are a few little stone chips and a few little ?parking lot? scratches that every car that isn?t brand new has.

    Misc:
Full paperwork for import and compliance - compliance and mod plate - LO1 and LK1 (ADR Compliance and Seatbelt Modification)
Spare Auto Trans Computer (curtesy of ScottyTT)
I have all receipts from when I owned the car as well as quite a few from the previous Aus owner.

    Thankyou:

OK - So much for all the good stuff I guess it is time to show the bad:

The Passenger Tweeter is a bit funny on the left hand side:

    Rear Quarterpanel Window Molding:

On the plus side my driver's seat tear is almost non existant:

The glue on the trim just near the driver's side rear seat has let go:

As mentioned previously the trim near the release levers is shot but is being replaced with new:

If you look hard you should be able to see a fair sized dent in the bonnet. It was there when I bought it.

Phew - well that was 20MB of Photos - what is YOUR download limit? :p

If you want any other pics of a specific spot then let me know and I will arrange it.

Don't sell Grenfel! I'll gladly look after her while you are away :D

Mine can be the DD (once I get it back) and I'll take yours out on weekends :p Would be sad to see you sell mate - if it does go, I hope you'll bring back a 97 zed with you when you come???

  4. zed4life (zedcare.com)

    zed4life (zedcare.com) Ω vicarious zedder Ω

This is a great zed, K-Zed and I can attest to

that. Around $14K is ridiculously cheap for such a car. Realistically it's closer to $16-17K IMO.

Minor cosmetic work is bugger all really. Engine and drivetrain very strong. All the hard work done... Fantastic security system (even I am impressed with it)

$14K is a BARGAIN. I'd be firm on the price Shaun...

Hate to see you go Shaun ... :(

Now thats a for sale ad!

Although at first I was expecting to see pictures of either a 'pink' Zed or a little finger:D
Seriously though, looks like a quality Zed, good luck with the sale!

    Great For Sale Ad.

    I have to agree,

That is a fantastic for sale ad there!

I really appreciate your honesty in showing 'all' of the nasty bits too - well done.

Pity about the sale though, maybe you'll bring a nice one back with you to share here???

    Cheers, Kaz.

What's the go with charcoal Zeds lately

    They're all leaving:( :( .
Well Shaun, all the best for your O/S trip. I am sad to see you sell, but there are other things in life besides a Zed (At least I think there are).
Even if you remain Zedless upon your return, you'll always be welcome to drop in for a coffee and a chat at my place any time you are passing.

Best of luck with the sale.

And as other people said, the most comprehensive for sale post I''ve seen.

  13. CurnZ

    CurnZ zero rwkw

Have to agree this is a very good ad! Very clean car. I'd just like to point out to potential buyers that the things which need fixing won't cost much at all. The cowls and wipers and metal bits on top of the targas etc can be fixed in a hour with a little sanding and some $2 matt black spray paint. The wing can be replaced with a gonzo replica (or no wing at all). The scratches and dents don't look bad at all and should be easily fixed. The moulds which have worn away can be replaced easily. Whoever gets this will be getting a really good deal. Good luck with the sale!

    Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

For those that are wondering about the whole "pinkie" thing - it is a bit of an inside joke but basicaly it devolved from the concept that the Zed is an extension of ones, ummm, body.

Just realized I had forgoten something (see and you thought that wasn't possible with such a massive add) - I still have the rear cargo cover blind - the end just needs glueing together - the two clips that are prone to breaking are intact. :)

Also despite all my checking I hadn't noticed until after posting that all the quotes came out as question marks... :(

Now that's what ALL For Sale ads should look like!

I'm sure you've heard this enough and just want to sell the zed, but I just had to comment anyway. That is what ALL For Sale ads should look like!

It may take a bit of extra time to create, but it really says wonders about the pride you take in your car. Just reading your post gives me an indication of the effort you've put in. Top effort and best of luck with the sale. Looks schmick with the Bomex Kit too :zlove:

Umm 75,000 KM rather than 73K...

Well I obviously wasn't paying attention... I even posted a pic of the odometer saying ~74,500 and didn't pick up on the fact that I had 73,000 KM stuck in my head.

Also the front tyres have now been replaced (and broken in  ), and I have the safety certificate (which is what made me realise I was wrong on the KMs - as I thought the guy had misread it - but it was just me...). :(

    Deposit

Just to let everyone know that I've had a deposit put on the car.
If you are interested give me your details anyway - just in case something goes wrong, as I've only got 5 weeks until I'm out of the country.

Also the targa release lever trim has come in from Cresta which I will get a chance to fit over the next few days. :zlove:

    Take care of yourselves.
