    Ok, here we go...

Today around 10am after waking up in a hotel with my friend and some babes we decided it's time to go home and it was raining heavy at this stage so we got in the car and started driving turned the aircon on and after driving from about 5-10 minutes we smelt a funny smell, it was kinda like a metal/oil smell but weird.

Anyway, i didn't think anything of it, however i saw my girl and we went for a drive in my Zed and whilst driving i felt something drip on my feet... I thought it was maybe water stored somewhere because of the heavy rain so i didn't worry much about it until...

On the way home, we got in the car and started driving than suddenly whilst driving i felt something pissing on my left foot just from above my foot and while i turned right my girl went wtf and say this Yellow liquid shooting onto her foot just from above and right and it turned green, and it kept on doing it while i turned around corners, however it looked like a green liquid to me...

Maybe coolant? but how can that be, it's just above my left foot and her right foot from the middle... This could maybe damage the electrical side of the car as well.... Possible hoses? any suggestions are welcome as i am worried that my baby might have some serious problems

    Just checked

Just checked the coolant as the engine is a bit cooler and YES the coolant has dropped to half of when it's normally full. Still don't know what the actual problem could be

Yep, blown heater core for sure

The first thing to do is connect the two pipes at the back of the block together to bypass the heater altogether - see the tech article. if you do that you will be able to refill the radiator and continue to drive the car.

You then have until next winter to fix/replace the heater core - or keep moving North until you don't need a heater at all. :D

angrybear is spot on it is definatley your heater core the same thing happened to me a few months back. there is a good tech article on here that should help. depending on which way you decide to do it (assuming you pull out your dash) it is a good time to glue down your dash if it has lifted up near the front windscreen. Goodluck.

    hmm

Ok I can't get to the part to replace the hose so i have to go see my mechanic. I don't have the tools either...

Do you guys recommend me to drive to my mechanics garage if i fill up my coolant or get a tow truck and do it that way?

Depends on how bad the leak is

That sounds more like a gusher than a drip. You need to work out whether you can get to the mechanic before the coolant level becomes critical. If you cook the engine, your pockets will need to be very deep. I wouldn't risk it.

Call a mobile mechanic, they should be able to handle the bypass job without problems. You will need to get the hose first, because the guy won't have one, and you don't want to pay him for the time it takes for him to go and get one.

    ey

Yeah might give Lube Mobile a call tomorrow and get the bypass hose and get him just to install it... should be nice and easy and than see my mechanic next week to get the heat core replaced

just curious... Is the heat core needed to have cold air or just hot air?

with a by-pass, you will have A/C but no heating ...

.. i believe you also lose your demisters which apparently are required by law ...???

Your Air Con will still function fine without the heater core.:zlove:

    awesome

that's sweet as, so i'll get the by pass done and leave the heat core for winter... I might have a good look tomorrow see if i can do it myself (get the bypass done)

a search should provide you with heaps of advice on

hose requirement and the "how to do" .....

It is required by law BUT, at the pits, they usually just inspect by ensuring air is blown towards the windscreen. They can't usually be arsed to wait till it actually warms up.

Plus... its actually quicker (if a little less comfortable) to demist a window using your aircon :p

Where abouts in Brisbane are you, if your near my place I can bypass it for you.

ey thx for all the help guys.

Got it all fixed today, the manual on the tech section was kinda misleading as to where the bypass needs to be inserted. It was in a different position so maybe that's why i couldn't find it
