in relation to ....... http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1274869#post1274869 TPS checked -> passed AFM cleaned and swapped aswell, original refitted -> passed CAS checked -> passed boost leaks checked -> passed Coils checked and 1 replaced Injectors checked All plugs replaced BUT.................... still havent got #2 cylinder The replacement coil went to #1, sooty plug and intermittant spark @ idle, the cylinder picked up instantly with a new plug and another coil same treatment for #2...... yet #2 still fails after running @ idle for a few minutes the plug is drenched after running at 2~3 thou RPM for a few minutes the plug is clear but still quite sooty. check coil.... passes check plug .... passes combine coil & plug ..... good spark fit plug and coil...... FAIL, cylinder still not working compression test..... pass run engine minus #2 plug..... heavy mist on startup but clears in ~5seconds mist is fuel NOT water vapour. refit components same result, #2 not there........ removing power from the #2 coil makes no differance to the engines idle, yet the engine drops in RPM if other coils are disconnected & B4 anyone asks...... SERIES 2 PTU if it was a series 1 then I'd have the culprit by the short n curlies. but alas..... ideas ? Kingy
Leaking injector is pretty much all that's left. It has spark, it has fuel, it has compression. If it's not igniting either spark isnt strong enough which you ruled out, compression isnt good enough which you ruled out, too little fuel is rule out because the plug is wet, so too much fuel.
I remember a similar problem with Benny's zed but with number 4. In the end it was a loose terminal at the ecu. Ie the pins weren't connecting properly. Give the pins a tighten on the ecu loom plug.
Thats what I thought, but what I cant get my head around is that even after startup and running #2 still wont "fire" as such. I grabbed an old copper plug and opened the gap to the max and fitted it.... dropped the injector wires off & dropped the coil wires off started the car......... reconnected the power to the coil & reconnected the power to the injector In doing so the coil should have been firing to a dry cylinder untill the injector was reconnected... I reconnected the injector and as quickly as I could pulled the coil wires ..... there was no drop in rpm The cylinder should have been clear of excess fuel and the short run without power to either components certainly should have cleared any debris within the pot Thats what is confusing me, why cant I get #2 to actully 'fire' @ idle even momentarily ???? its as if the coil stops working the instant I refit it to the engine and why has this occoured when the car was parked back in November and not touched untill the other day, nothings happened to have caused it todays tasks: re-check injector #2 and do a leakdown test (presurise fuel rails and check for leakage in #2) re-check electricial connections to both coil and injector on #2 swap out ecu -> main reason I'm doing this is because #1 was also heavily sooted on the initial check of the plugs but was happy again once a new plug was fitted. there's something going on that would have caused #1 to have failed initially and I'm not ruling out a return of the problem.
I read Anti's thread...... http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=317998 problem is the rails and injectors have been in the car for 2+years now and havent given any issues at all. why whould they have suddenly failed ?
Kingy , if you have another series 2 p.t.u lying around give it a try. A real long shot but i seem to remember someone having a hell of a time trying to find a similiar fault and in the end it was a dodgy series 2 p.t.u . Highly unlikely but worth a try. Cheers Dave I do have a couple of spare series 2 here if you need one to try.
Possible - since you say that it hasnt been doing anything since november - that fuel could have went stale and varnish deposits formed and caught in the injector filter blocking it Still sounds like injector to me anyway
