Got myself some brand new Work Emotion Kai to replace the cheapo 16x6"s and thought I would share. All 18" with 9.5" +38 rear and 8.5 +32 front with Federal 595 255/35 and 235/40 respectively. I'm very happy with the look and the grip so now as promised some soft-focus soft-core. The nuts are 'red' so you know... I'm actually liking the look though. Also there's something very wrong in one of the pics if you feel like playing some sort of "spot the uptard" game
haha, yeah. Did you notice before I pointed it out? some people pic it instantly and not always the mechanically knowledgable. Front rotors are the stock rear so smaller diameter too, to clear the 16"s is my best guess, forgot to check if calipers have been adapted to bring them in.
It does look hollow and jacked up but I'd need to re-bend the dump pipes and the front bar already causes trouble. I don't mind the Evo look so can't be bothered dropping it more any-time soon. Means I can ride it hard even on rough roads
Oh the HORROR! Those wheel nuts must DIE! I don't mean to rain on your parade but I simply cannot say anything nice unless those wheel nuts change colour.
I'm sorry you feel that way, before putting it all together I was worried they would grab too much attention or a 'rainbow vomit' colour scheme would develope but I think it does blend fairly cleanly only giving it a little... uh, contrast? flair? After seeing it this way I think it would feel bland if I went for black or polished.
did you know you can get offset front brake brackets and put bigger disks in there, better cooling and less fade
Better yet I could upgrade to OEM or equivelant. Check my reply to Mongrel above, discs are next on my shopping list. Although now that you mention it an upgrade kit may be worthwile since they need replacing anyway.
Looking very nice can't wait to see this around uni next year. On a side note how do you find the federals in the dry and wet?
Probably wont be taking this one to uni, don't like parking it there and I've had to stop driving it to work too to preserve my license, we'll have to do some runs and barbecues. Haven't tested them too much yet, only a bit in the dry and no wet but compared to old, thin balding maxxis ones they are amazing, haven't slipped at all yet. They're red!!! ...ish. I might have to get a more conservative set for club meets
Thank you Kai's are sold out for the sale but you can still get some XT7 or XD9 for cheapish http://www.toyotatuned.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=514785
James, I took it out today and tested the grip a bit more on some corners, shift down to first and flat-footing through a right angle, still no slip so for dry weather I think my drift career is on hiatus now. Not likely to do much wet-weather testing until I've done some more work on it because, you know, targas and a poorly sealing bonnet with a water-sensitive alarm. Tread is getting closer to the slick side of things so possible they aren't as amazing in the wet but my brother runs 595's on both his R31 and 32GTR and says they're pretty damn solid in the wet.
Those wheel nuts... Red ....ish is not a colour, so I looked up a colour chart and worked out that they're most likely mauve or lilac. Now blokes don't even know them colours (and they're not supposed to either), let alone go around sporting wheel nuts in such shades. The overall look though is aesthetically appealing, and yes those Kais are dead sexy! If you lowered it an inch, changed out the amber side indicators for clear and lost those insidious wheel nuts - with that awesome and rare front bumper - I would most likely snap my neck and pop out an eye if you drove past on the street.
Are you trolling me by saying that they are a variety of purple? if you want to use a more specific/feminine name than pink they'd either be light magenta or possibly some variety of fuchsia, whatever that is. Thank you, although you forgot to mention the sleek mirrors.
