Great Ocean Road At Night WARNING: If you think the GOR in daylight is difficult drive then this run IS NOT for you. The GORAN presents many new challenges even for the more experianced drivers.... increased wildlife activity, differing road surfaces, unfamiliarity of location, direction confusion, limited visibility etc etc .... again .... If you think the GOR in daylight is difficult drive then this run IS NOT for you. When: Saturday NIGHT, 15th January 2011 (it will be a long night but you'll have all Sunday to sleep ) hopefully it will be a nice warm night :zlove: The run: We will be having dinner at a pub in Geelong around 8.00ish, the exact pub details will be advised shortly, we then depart from the pub around 9.30pm ~ 10.00pm Note: You will need to be fully fueled as no service stations opperate along the GOR after 9.00pm Melbourne crew: once the pubs details are arranged I will advise you of a departure time from the Todd road servo we use for the GOR run so you can make the dinner easily. (a 2nd meetup point for those not wishing to have a meal at the pub can be arranged if required) Following a good feed & social time, we will then head off to do the GOR through to ApolloBay before returning to Geelong and going our seperate ways. Photo opportunities: make sure you have a flash  For those traveling long distances to join the run it may be worth considering a motel room or contacting a Geelong member who may have a spare bed / patch on the floor to catch some zeds (pun intended) 1. Can't make this one Kingy. I promised the wife I'd spend less time on the Zed and take the family away for a week during this time. See you at Goldfields instead. I reckon it will be an awesome run. Got a taste of that area when we visited Ross. There's some great roads, bush and towns up that way. Cheers.
I'll do my best to make it, I loved the GOR heaps! (Even though I held everyone back at the start of the day... Thanks BigCol for coming to get me) 1. BADZX 2. TQE-756 3. bRACKET 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
No worries mate. We're like soldiers - we never leave someone behind!!! As for the GORAN run, sorry I don't think I'm going to be able to make this one.
C'monn guys...! Imagine it... beautiful warm night.... ...good visibility. ...the targa's off and the roar of the Zed echoing off the cliff face... ....the adreniline and all your senses finely honed becoming one with your Zed lol. ahmmmm ahmmm... (how am I doing??) ahmmm....!!? ..Oh and the wind in your hair! (I failed at that one lol)
Just a heads up re hitting wildlife, the risk is very real and it's not fun when you do actually hit one. Occasionally a pair of bright eyes will pop up in the road. When you're going around the bend, it's unavoidable so be prepared to replace a fog light or two and maybe get the bumper repainted and aligned. Depends on what you hit of course, hit a wombat and it's gonna cost.
Might give it a miss mate, I want to have some better headlights in before I attempt a difficult night run... Enjoy your night guys!
