Hi, I searched the forum and found Nat Rad and Nissan are 2 places to go for a new heater core. Just wondering if there are anywhere else in Melbourne? Also happy for one to be freighted if you know a good parts shop or if a forum member sells 'em. Looks like Caz don't have any on their website. I've got an Aus delivered '95 model so I don't think there are any differences in models is there? I'm replacing it as I noticed a few very small drops of coolant on the passenger side a couple of weeks ago (the last time I had the heater running. Found that it could be the heater core. Checked the coolant levels and the leak isn't enough to notice. Better to be safe than sorry though.... P.S. I'm doing this job with dash in. Who Dares Wins!
as for ordering on line is the heater core another item dependant on which side the drive is on? ie can we fit LHD units in our cars?
I recently fitted a LHD version, if you use a LHD version you need to re use the existing piping/valve. Changing the valve would be a real pain in the arse due to the tension on the valve/operating cable hence I just replaced the core and re used everything else. Also you can get from coz the rubber grommit that covers the holes where the pipe come out into the engine bay (my original one was falling apart) getting the screw out whilst the engine is in that sits behind the grommit is insanely hard, i did mine whilst the engine was out and it was a cake walk. Z Centre UK - Stock both LHD and RHD, RHD is considerably more expensive Coz - Much cheaper but LHD only Z1 - Again cheaper and LHD only
Holy crap! Z Centre UK looked expensive. Thanks for the site though. There are some trim pieces on there that I was interested in. Still looking for a good source for a heater core though. I know Nissan, Nat Rad and eBay. If I don't find a local or forum member, I'll buy from one of them tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll do the bypass so I can still drive around with the work half completed.
Some people get a Mitsubishi ( ??????? ) heater core as it fits straight in and looks exactly the same just cheaper $100 odd i think. Now all we need is one of those people to post up what model ( i'm thinking sigma but not sure ) Cheers Dave
Id go the Magna one, you will lose a few killerwasps but you will save a bundle of cash. Same picture hopefully the same product from the same supplier, bastards !, soon as you say 300ZX they pump the price. Save $152 . http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-MI...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4aa279db89 The CZP OEM one is cheap enough and you get new gaskets and o-ring, and a guarantee of quality, see if he will send USPS. http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=1792&Car_Type=NIS300&UID=
The item you need is from a 94 Mitsubishi Mirage(and is sold through Natrad(Phillip, ACT). Replaced mine in 2003, still working perfectly).
Chili is on to it. If you look closer at those links above they have differnt dimension, but using the same pictures, lazy bastards.
Cliff ... i found the NATRAD ACT (Phillip is the name of the suburb) supplier to be very good ... ordered mine by phone and it was delivered overnight, hassle free ...
Brief update. Did my heater core bypass with a Mackay Heater Hose (CH1623). Spoke to a bloke called Burl at Nat Rad in ACT. I'll order the 94 Mitsubishi Mirage Heater Core tomorrow morning (couldn't order it this arvo as he was busy doing tonight's freight??). Thanks for all of your help so far.
Cliff .. i forgot to add .... your replacement heater core will come with all sort of dire warnings about mixing different brands of coolant ... it is essential that you flush/clear your system of all traces of the existing/old coolant and then use one brand of coolant thereafter .... i have used TECTALOY 500ml concentrate for the past 5 years in Black Bess and for 18 months in the Blue convertible without issues ...
Thanks mate. Did some research on capping vs. bypassing too. Given that the water coolant to / from the core isn't in series with anything else, I probably should've just capped the steel pipes. The bypass works anyway. The leak in the core must be tiny. There was only a very small drop or two on the passenger side when I looked up from underneath and the coolant level stayed at normal levels too. Damn that's a tight engine bay to work in! All good fun though. I'll also source the heater core from Nigel300's suggestion. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-NISSAN-HE...item335fab83a9 Spoke to Nat Rad yesterday arvo. They were too busy to take my order (??). Called 'em again and they asked me to hold as he took another call from another customer..... Won't bother calling back. I'm not going to beg someone to take my order. Damn shame as the price for the 94 Mirage Heater Core was only $165 delivered. Called auto cooling parts and they set one aside for me to pick up anytime this week. Easy.
Never worked "one up" in a busy automotive environment(several phones ringing, packages to get shipped)?? Too bad mate, I'm guessing you will pay more for being impatient(there are a great many people on here who have purchased their replacement heater core from this company, myself included).[TIS]:br:
Yeah. Fair call. Never work anywhere in the automotive industry and I'm sure their heater cores are good. I just needed someone to take my order! Got mine now so it's all good
Care to explain how you obtained a heater core for a '94 Mitsubishi Mirage in 1993? Discovered a time machine??
Care to explain WTF you are talking about? No, I haven't discovered a Time Machine(but I sure as Hell discovered a DRONGO). Still a Junior Member after 10 years(I think there's a clue here)? 2003 not 1993.[TIS]
Dash in job if it's an Auto, impossible if it's a manual. It's a known fact that the Z32 was built around the heater core
