I noticed white stains on my passenger side carpet. Initially I thought it could be aircon related. However, today, I had a plastic bag under that area and it collected what looks like coolent fluid. Now the stupid question. Is there a hose running inside the dash area? And if so, how hard is it to get to and fix? (ie do I need to remove the entire dash to get to it??) Thanks guys.
There is a heater core up there under the dash, and they fail. When they do they dump coolant inside the cabin. Search on heater core and you will see a ton of info on this all too common problem. First step is to bypass the heater core altogether to protect the engine from losing coolant. It is done by using a hose to connect the heater pipes at the back of the engine. Plenty of info on that here too. The repair is a bitch of a job, as you will see.
Thanks man, I nearly shat myself looking at Jedi's most recent dash out heater core fix. Ok, there's a heap on bypassing the heater core, correct me if I am wrong. If I bypass it, it means I will have no heater? No? Does that mean the front de-mister wouldnt work or does simply mean that it will vent out cold air instead?
answers... everything else will work as intended... you just wont have any hot air.... If you dont mind cold winter nights then just bypass it. If you want a functioning heater system then you will need to repair it. If manual, no choice but to rip the dash out and the heaterbox... If auto, you can do it from under the dash but its still a bitch of a job... Either way its not fun.... I have done it twice now and many other members even more.... hold a tech day and we can come fix it for you....

This was the first thing to happen to my zed i by-passed the heater core. only girls need a heater that's why i tell mine to bring a jacket lol
Couple of ordinary Tassie evenings a bit after the middle of the year will cure you of that bravado.. This I can assure you!!!! LOL L8r E
