Hi. I live in Brisbane and am thinking of going Brazilian with removing my wing as the fibreglass has buckled out of shape. Question: In QLD, do I need a third brake light? If so. any ideas as to what alternative third light bracket I can fit and where? Many Thanks MIKEA
Not sure about the legality side of it for qld. But nsw requires one. You will need something to go there though, as removing the wing opens up a gap. Rob260 (rgs performance) sells them around the $300 mark new and undamaged Hope it helps Ben
These cost a few bucks on eBay. Mounts above the rego plate. Technically it would be a third brake light, but mounted in the bumper it wouldn't be called a high mount visible brake light. It is cheap enough and has a bracket which might allow you to mod it to fit in that hole in the hatch.
You can buy the third brake light infill panel for about $350 or you can get a blank infill panel and do what i did in my old car, saw repco, got a narva panel strip light and had it hard wired into the brake lights. And mounted it in the rear windscreen.
Similar Narva light http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/161...e&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=107
got one got one in QLD (Caboolture/Elimbah) brand new genuine opened to look at (still in box) never installed. Yours if you pick it up for 250. Pm me if interested.
sure Im in Sydney, old man will take one (in his shed) and send it to me tomorrow, will forward it you then.
Just to clarify, the high mount stop light is not a state by state thing, it is an ADR (#60-00), and all cars sold new after July 1989 gotta have it. If fitted to the outside of a vehicle it must be no lower than 77mm below the bottom of the rear window; 152mm for convertibles. We followed USA laws on this, so both the rear spoiler version or the infill version would have been designed to suit. That said, whether inspectors get picky enough to worry about it is another thing.
For the sake of reducing the chance that the guy eating donuts and tailgating you ends up parked in your rear bumper I'd say its probably worth having one anyway.
