    Hey Everyone,

I have searched and cant seem to find anything that is really similar to the noise that im hearing from my gearbox.

When i rev the car in first to about 5500 + and change to second i get a noise thats not a cruntching but more of a sound like 2 pieces of metal sheering off each other...i can feel it through the shifter and a little bit on the pedal also..

Sometimes makes this noise when im changing back down gears from 3rd to 2nd also...same thing...can feel the grind (not a crunhing) through the shifter and the pedal...

It has the smallest vibration gritty feel to it. hmmm its hard to describe...it feels like (and sounds a bit like) when you shapen an kniff on a hoading stone or grinding wheel, something like that....

The noise can be heard in the car and from the outside and be heard even louder.

    Any ideas??

I thought it might be a syncros or something like that being lazy and also im due for an oil change (was done about 40,000km ago...) so perhaps it just needs new box oil.

    Thanks everyone.

    Josh

    Sounds like

    Synchro's to me.
Try some Redline shockproof oil, quitens them down a lot.
Check the oil you take out for the sparkly bits.
    otherwise rebuild time.

    G/box...

Yeah I concurr with the Wiz. Synchro's sounds like the problem :)

If your going to rebuild the g/box, put some Billet Alloy shift forks in as well :) $1400 extra. Sounds expensive, but I can't seem to break them :D.

    Worth the money IMO. :)

My gearbox makes the same noises. Ive put Redline Lightweight shockproof in it 4 days ago and the difference is very minimal. I was expecting much more for oil that expensive. Next time i might try the MT-90

Synthetic oil will help the rings change speed faster, but it won't fix damaged synchros.

If they're that far gone just save your money for a rebuild

How much does a rebuild generally cost?

Anyone had good/bad experiences with rebuild or just throwing a 2nd hand gearbox in?

    redline is great stuff

my car crunched the dog rings changing into 4th at anything over 135kph but when i changed to redline lightweight gear oil after maybe a day or 2 i can change it a 7000rpm hard! and not even a hint of complaint... so for me it was the best 100 bucks i ever spent:D :D :D .... the mt90 isnt as 'slippery' tho which help the syncros acctually spin then next gear up so maybe that would be better??? also if anyone does the diff oil in ur car make sure u use 75-90w not mt90!! there is a difference!!!!!(friction modifiers)

My mate had his Suzuki Swift GTi gearbox rebuilt, 3 months later it was ****** again. He blames it on a dodgy job, but I've always thought that he treats his car like complete shit, so it's probably a mixture of both.
