    Morning all.
Car has developed a very very strange ticking noise at idle, I found the issue, but don't know what it is. On the firewall, drivers side, beside the brake booster, right in the corner is a bracket held in place by 2 x 10mm bolts, this holds a small black 'thing' that says Haitachi on it, has 3 x 10mm air? pipes leading to it and a electrical plug. This is the mystery ticker....... can someone please tell me what it actually is so I can investigate the situation.
Heres a piccy of where it is....

Just above the green circle, you'll see a bent over bracket - I guess their one has been taken off for some strange reason.
    Cheers

    I believe....

that is part of the AIV system.... I'm not sure, but I think it is.... you know the AIV's??? those silly things that sit in your wheel arches and gurgle when filled with water???..

When my AIV's were removed, all that plumbing from the engine bay was also removed....

    Cheers

    Its called a Soleniod

I think the upper one drives the AIV valves, and the lower one is to do with the EGR.

If the upper one is clicking pull the plug out. The AIV's are not needed.

That would explain why mine were ripped out....

because I have no AIV's or EGR..:)
