My passenger side wheel bearing needs replacing. When I tried to do this I could'nt remove the steering tierod end. I got the weird looking tool that does this job but the tierod was stuck so bad that the tool itself was damaged. Anyone who has done this, how on earth do you remove the tierod end without damaging the forged aluminium surrounding it and how on earth do you remove the whole caliper assembly. Even the bottom balljoint looks impossible. I have done this heaps of times on other cars but in this case it appears to be a PITA big time. Can the fork type of tool be used and give it a good bashing to seperate the tierod end and bottom balljoint. - I can see damage to the rubber covers happening though. What is the best way to remove these without causing damage to any surrounding components. Before anyone asks, yes I have a press to remove the bearing. Any ideas. Peter
Tie rod end removal 1. Raise Vehicle 2. Support on stands 3. Remove road wheel 4. Remove split pin from tie rod end 5. Back tie rod nut up to level with top of thread 6. Strike side of steering arm hard (90deg to tie rod thread) several times with steel hammer 7. Now tap top of nut with coper or brass hammer. 8. The tie rod end should now come loose 9. If that fails repeat steps with hammers 10. If that fails you may have to use heat on connection. Good luck, Peter
I tapped mine out with a lead hammer though mine was only apart about 6 months prior to this time round. The real fun starts when trying to get the bearing out.
