How do you know when a front wheel bearing goes? I have a (pulsating woo, woo) noise that gets worse (louder) the longer the car is driven and especially when on the freeway at approx. 80km/h and over. The noise plateaus out and does'n get any worse just constant. It appears to come from the passenger side. Had this for approx. 3 months now and the noise has remained the same. When the car is stopped the noise disappears' even when engine is revved. Would a failing wheel bearing also show up as a slight vibration on the steering wheel as well as having the noise. Today I fixed my centre bearing as it was completely wrecked and was also told that the Auto is sliping and got it serviced - seems to be working ok. Can the bands be adjusted on a Z Auto. and what do they do? Is it possible the Auto be making this noise? Is it something in the Auto trany that can create a loud pulsating noise like a wheel bearing does? Anyone had a similar experience? Peter
I'm new to this - but my guess would be warped brake rotor Can someone more knowledgeable/experienced (or at least more confident) confirm?
First, rotate the tyres It's amazing how much a noisey tyre can sound like anything else. There's been a couple of times I was sure I had a worn wheel bearing but got new tyres and everything went quite. See Ya, Garry
Lift your wheel off the ground... ...and check if it has a little play without moving the steering wheel. If it has...then it`s on the way out and need to be change when you got a chance otherwise if you wait too long, you will have to pay more $$$$$ and change the whole thing. You can get the bearings for from TTZED at $64 , from memory. Cheers, Olivier:thumbsup:
Could be a tyre problem. One of my front tyres is out of round It could be making this noise. If the noise still persists after I replace the tyre, I will replace the front LHS bearing. - this will begin the process of elimination. Thanks for your comments. Peter
to eliminate auto why not give it a boot up to vibration speed and put the car in neutral i if it still vibrates then its not the auto.
Very innovative idea - actually doing this will tell me if the noise is comming from the Auto or not. If the car is moving in neutral (at speed) then the Auto is not under load. If the noise persists then it must be something else. The vibration is from miss-aligned front wheels. Car needs a wheel alignment after replacing a rubber on the steering rack last week and an out of round RHS tyre. Should have done the wheel alignment straight away Thanks Peter
It was the RHS tyre causing the noise!!!! - It had a bulge that looked sort of like a snake. I would have never picked it if it wasn't for UAS highlighting this problem initially. Thanks John and guys at UAS. Glad it's not a wheel bearing or Auto. Peter
