I decided to get into my fuel system today.... fitting dual pumps etc. I removed the 2 covers in the boot to uncover 2 hatches in the top of the tank. On the passenger side, wiring for pump and fuel level sender, and on drivers side, another set of wires. I removed both hatches to find that there was an additional fuel level sender unit on the drivers side. What the hell is this for???? I looked in the online service manual and it makes no mention of it, doesn't even show the second hatch. Any ideas?????
the parts manual on 2-M9 Section 172A-1 it has a picture of a 2 seater fuel tank which shows the extra fuel level sensor with a hose connecting from it to the other one. The 4 seater only has the one but the tank sits further back. Maybe they had issues with the fuel sender and required using two to average out the reading from various parts of the tank due to baffles inside the fuel tank.
Yeah I did see that...... dunno why the hose runs across to the second sensor either.... the pipe bends down about 200mm into the tank. What are you doing with that other fuel pump assembly you've got, are you just using the pump, or the whole box and dice?? I thought it may be easier just to mount a second assembly on the driver's side for the second pump / return line. Cheers Kyne
I'm only guessing ... ... but is it possible that one sender goes to the fuel gauge, and the other one to the low fuel warning light???
