I have found a 89 TT 2+2 Auto for sale with a blown head gasket, which is for sale. It starts, drives (still feels strong and hits about 9 psi) but it is going though water like no tomorrow, and coming out the exhaust. You can drive the car for about 10 -15 mins before it over heats. The owner has made it quite clear about the blown head gasket, and is looking for a quick sale. The car is in aveage condition, interior is dirty, but can easily be spruced up, the paint is faded (black) and the car is stock other than a Pod and a crappy exhaust. The auto box feels good, and the engine isnt smokey.
I can probably pick it up for 2-2.5k, i am just debating whether it is worth it, to fix or wreak, as there are a few parts i need for my car. I have only had a quick look at it, but all seems ok other than whats stated. I'm sure I will find other problems, it is a zed after all! lol.
Or if anyone else is interested i can pass on the details. I would consider splitting with some one who needs parts, and has storage.

lol christ whats it take to replace a head gasket on a zed, price wise?

my bro just got his done in his car and only set him back 1200 and they done other shit too...

2000-2500 unless the head gasket will cost 6000 to do wouldnt it be better to repair?

or hell just buy a new engine for about 2000-3000 with box and put that bad boy in.. problem solved?

and gained a car worth 8-10k, maybe even more if manual/put some work into it.

put it like this, I bought my zed for 3.5k uncompiled and unregistered

it ran fine, auto was fine, just a bit dirty and the paint was shit

so far its cost me around 6k and i have a zed with a great engine, box could possibly be on the way out, not sure, perfect interior (with almost everything, leather included) stereo but still shit paint. I got lucky, u might not, make sure u look into everything and get it completely checked before u buy it. It is probably worth a shitload in parts alone so if ur willing to do that, then by all means its worth it for 2k. but if ur planning on driving it, dont start sinking any money into it unless u know it will be worth it in the end.

For me to fix it and WANT to drive it i would need to-
Fix the head gasket say 3k
100k km Service 1.2k with parts
A new 'el cheapo paint job 1.5k
That would be the bare min. Not to mention the other crap you are sure to find on the way.

Don't forget the rest. Engine's gone, interior is dirty, paint is gone.

What's the rest like ? Brakes, suspension etc.

Can the interior be revived ? Paint job ? New suspension ? New exhaust ? Wheels Tyres ? Anything in good condition ?

Buy a car in good condition instead. It is always gonna cost you more to fix up an average one than getting a good starting point.

Sounds like a part out candidate

if you decided to wreck it then you would easily get your money back on 2.5K

yep, i reckon the wreck road would be the way to go..

.. for a $10,500 ask, check out the red ACT zed ( snazzy cut out bonnet..) in the for sale section .. nice looking machine and probably largely problem free .. that seems to me a better deal for a zed you want to drive .. and for around the same price after you go through all the pain and the "fixes" with the "wreck" ...
