    Hello,

    I just bought my first 300zx i have wanted one for ages finally found a cheap project.

    Car: 1989 Nissan 300zx Fairlady Z, NA - Auto.
    I just went through and checked the essentials to find out what needs to be replaced and i was shocked, the car only has 137,000k's on the clock, breaks are great, engines great...running a little rough i think the plugs need replacing, front and rear boots in good nic no cracks or aging.

    I plan to restore it to its former glort but i cant do it alone so i have joined here and the first thing i need to tackle is my leaking power stearing fluid! & when im on about 2k rpm it runs pretty rough.. like the timing is off or its mis firing and i was hoping someone could tell me about how to find out if the pluggs and leads are all good.. long story i know!

    since your new around here

    Three words that should never go in one sentance, Cheap, Zed and Project.

    I suppose it depends on how deep your pockets are as to what is cheap.

    Welcome

    Welcome to the forum, and the insanity that is owning a 300zx. Dont listen to all the nay sayers that tell you that buying a cheap zed is not worth it ;).
    If you are prepared to put in the effort, do most of the work yourself and learn from what can be a very frustrating car then good on you :zlove:.
    The best way to find out about these cars is to ask questions and turn up to or even host the occasional tech day, plenty of helpful people here in W.A. mate and some of us are even nice :eek:.
    Hope this helps out just a little, Cheers, Andy :cool:

    Welcome. Leaking power steering maybe from the hose from the pump to the rack. There is a machine crimped joint that starts to leak. It's hidden by a outer protective sheaf. The fix is to remove it and take it to Pertek or Enzed and they will put a new hose on your fittings minus the joint that leaks. Put the car on stands and look from underneath up behind the alternator. Rougth running maybe from corroded electrical connectors under the bonnet ?. Check and clean / replace the following
    1 = 6x Injector connectors
    2 = 6x Coil pack connectors
    3 = 2x P.T.U connectors
    4 = 1x C.A.S connector
    5 = 1x A.F.M connector
    6 = 2x connectors on the idle controls at rear of motor
    sure someone else will post more.
    Post in the wanted section for new connectors or check for sale sections.
    Use the search function for more info.
    Pull the coils ( make sure to put new balance tube o'rings x3 on every time balance tube is removed and replaced ) and check that there is a little spring and carbon piece in the spark plug end of every coil ( no spark plug leads on a Zed ).
    Definitely replace the spark plugs.
    Cheers Dave

    hey, well it was cheap because the body work isnt great & i coaxed the little chinese kid who was leaving the country into selling it cheap cause of the body, though im a qualified autobody spray painter so that was no issue and i've been through the service and there doesnt seem to be any under lying major issues!
