Let me start by saying to the moderators i feel this is z related effects us all and doesnt attack anyone by name so please dont shift it
Ok far be it from me to rock the boat but thats my nature, i have had emails from people i talk to with simular grief like i had in dealing with a certain other person selling parts off the for sale forum. I don't propose the following as a one of solution but it is an option to think about to stop proffitering from individuals, also note this is not an attack on legit busines my option is as follows

1- items that are obviously under $500 you must post an asking price with your post or it will be deleted
2- items from $500 to $2000 must carry an approximate asking price
3- Full vehicles can be left open to negotiation
4- NO auction style sales are to be conducted on the forum
5- no running down others items for sale
6- first in with a ill take it post has 12 hours to make contact with the seller (ok this wont make everyone happy but backdooring your forum mates only creates friction)
ok there it is in a nutshell, might seem a little harsh to some but it might just be the ones who use this forum as a means of making a quick buck, your thoughts will help this issue in the long run

my thoughts on that

1- items that are obviously under $500 you must post an asking price with your post or it will be deletedMost people do not know the true value of things therefore they ask for an offer. If you make a ridiculous offer knowing the that product for sale is worth a lot more or a lot less then that is not the sellers fault. Being like a small community you would expect people to be reasonable when they make an offer.2- items from $500 to $2000 must carry an approximate asking priceLikewise with above, and they usually do.3- Full vehicles can be left open to negotiationMost people who sell a car always negotiate so i see no problem here.4- NO auction style sales are to be conducted on the forumI agree with that but at the end of the day the seller is just trying to get the most out of what he/she is trying to sell. As it goes, it's worth what someone will pay for it.5- no running down others items for saleCorrect - unless the seller has sold something faulty or dodgy previously. 'similar to the rating system on ebay'6- first in with a ill take it post has 12 hours to make contact with the seller (ok this wont make everyone happy but backdooring your forum mates only creates friction)silly, as most people have many more things to do that sit around waiting for emails etc especially when a phone number isn't given.

i agree with method, although

something has to be done....maybe a pricing list to give people an idea of how much to ask or even maybe even placing ONO (or nearest offer) I dont know but I do know auctions in this kind of situation simply dont work and like what happened recently if the person waits so long to get a better price they end up losing out altogether in the long run.SOMETHING has to be done :/

I agree 100% with your suggestions:YD

If you need to "knock" another sellers item just to make yours look better, then your selling junk.
If you want to conduct an auction, go to E-Bay.
If you don't like something that's offered for sale, say so on the regular forums, NOT the For Sale forum.Cheers mate

There was a time >>>

when people would respond with a reasonable offer instead of rubbish offers like $1.00 for an item known to have a saleable value of $200++.
These rubbishy bids are in response to a request for offers, so while they are valid in that context they do not help the situation. I have purchased items from the guy in question - I emailed a reasonable offer, we negotiated a price and the deal was done within 4 emails. He sold the items, and I am happy with what I paid, and the items received were just as described. I would buy from him again - if that was a Mines dash for sale I would be placing an offer.I guess the bottom line is if you want to auction an item, take it to ebay, and then post the link here. Otherwise, either:
a) put a $$$ figure in the ad, and if you are willing to haggle, say so - or
b) if you don't know what an item may be worth, do a bit of research - maybe ask someone in your state who might have an idea.
c) If you still don't know what an item is worth, say so in the ad - it will then be incumbent upon the members to place reasonable offers if they are interested.

$1 bids are almost exclusively a response...

to these wonderful people that want to start on-line auctions, or at least want to someone to offer something that will be more than what they paid. This is a gutless attempt to catch the unlearned or inexperienced on the forum. If people would do their research and then state a price (even if unreasonable), they wouldn't be getting $1 bids.CheerZVincent

My thoughts on this.....>>

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to make suggestions. Input may not always be agreed with but we do like to get it. Now, lets look at your suggestions.
1- items that are obviously under $500 you must post an asking price with your post or it will be deleted
Sorry, I don't agree with deleting an add just because it doesn't have a price. Like a lot of people I find it frustrating to see adds where the seller doesn't nominate a price, but that shouldn't prevent the add from running.2- items from $500 to $2000 must carry an approximate asking price.
I agree, but why limit it to items only between $500 and $2000? Shouldn't all adds have an approximate asking price?3- Full vehicles can be left open to negotiation.
Yes, as should all adds. Depending on the wishes of the seller.4- NO auction style sales are to be conducted on the forum.
Definately agree. If you want to auction it then place it on eBay and put a link to it in the Classified section. Ther is nothing wrong with an auction as long as all parties are awrae of the rules when they start.5- no running down others items for sale.
Agreed, but if a member is trying to sell a product at an inflated price (possibly unknowingly) then isn't it the responsibility of other members to warn potential buyers of this? Provided it is handled tactfully then it shouldn't be a problem.6- first in with a ill take it post has 12 hours to make contact with the seller (ok this wont make everyone happy but backdooring your forum mates only creates friction)
First in with an "I'll take it post" should have the item. If it takes longer then 12 hours for the purchaser to reach the seller then that is just a fact of life. In these days of internet/email/SMS/mobile getting through shoulddn't be a problem. We have had very few problems with the classified section on this site and haven't felt the need to impose rules except for the use of common courtesy, and hopefully that isn't about to change. Of course there are always going to be exceptions, but I would hape to not have to restrain the majority because one or two didn't want to play fair.

A pricing list is a very good idea...:YD

Maybe provide:
1. an average value or
2. a min - max value so sellers and buyers have a range depending on the condition of the product.

Auction style is for e bay.

One of the good things about this forum is the way many go out of their way to help others...foster this. An auction style does not.
Encourage posting a price.
However if a price is posted with price and "ono" then the best offer up to the posted price should be an acceptable method of selling/buying.

To those that have replied, i started this..

because the auction style selling to me is like lets see how much we can milk these people for, i have had other people chat to me in email about the same person doing this again and again and it irks me that this person has absolutely zero input into other sections of the site.IMHO auction style selling creates friction and as an ex president of a motorsport and sporting club friction creates factions and has a negative effect on the club as a whole
OOOOOOOOOOk now ive gotten off my soapbox heh heh, sorry guys
