normally the front bars get resprayed for sale. they are the most common part of the body to make contact with the road. run your hand under the bottom lip and see if you can feel some patch work.

when a 4x4 reversed into the front of my old red one, she cracked the inner lense (your parker/indicator lamp). it took me months to find a replacement for it, as nissan havent sold them in a long time - so they told me a few years back. so you may be right in saying they've been replaced due to cost or in general just a compliance mod.

the old red zed was complianced in 2002 as well, and yet it was 89 model. from memory i think my black zed was also 2002 and possibly amandas blue zed.

as for the rear side reflectors, if you unscrew and remove the reflector, you should see if they were once illuminated, as there will be the hole for it. OR you will see the outline of where the hole should be, as when the mold is made the template is left in it. but not cut out. if your keen to make it illuminate, gently cut that hole into the reflector, and patch a wire from your rear tail lights - not your brake lights though. then you will have your own set of illuminated side reflectors. if your lucky, you may even have the wire there, just need to hook up a bulb...i say this as again the old red zed had the wires in place, but the plug cut off, and a replacement reflector without the hole installed - im thinking its a compliance thing again.

your footpath light, i'd just continue to run with it, and if you get issues with it, you can just either remove the bulb, or state the fact that the car was complianced and this is the resultant installments.

as for the rear illuminated center panel, hit the tech section, there is a diy in there for doing that, or you could hit the jap wreckers and try your luck at finding one....i come across one a long while ago for $50 - never bought it though...should have...not to worry.

true thing about the front bar - but on mine we actually put her up on the hoist b4 i bought her, and the bar is in brand new condition - no scrapes underneath it or anything... and it is still bare polyurethane underneath - so either a new bar altogether or just a touch up... - one of my front indicator/parker lenses is actually cracked pretty badly, so i need to get another one at some stage - i don't like the sounds of how hard it will be to find =[

On some models sold outside of Aust, the corner lights were wired to be an Amber Trafficator/blinker AND a clear steady light which only came on with the Trafficator/ Turn Signal for that side. This was intended to light the edge of the roadway for better visibility of gutters/potholes etc.(this was of questionable benefit, but was liked by some drivers).
The corner light unit IS NOT A FOG LIGHT, nor is it suitable for that purpose.
Once "imports" started arriving in this country, the legality(or otherwise)of this lighting system has been interpreted in various ways(depending on which particular State your car was complianced and registered in). This has led to many different configurations being on our roads(and is limited only by the imagination of the individual owner at the time).:zlove::zlove:

sick, thats good to know... - i've found the corner light to be really good for lighting up the road because mine has extremely dark tinting, so it just makes it easier to find the gutter when going around corners =) - i will have to rewire the "fog" lights at the moment so they work as indicators soon, since they're not even modifiable for fog lights... maybe in the long run i'll try to grab a pair on here somewhere... my passenger side one is cracked fairly badly already =(

Some newer model cars have this side illumination when the indicators are turned on. Normally on what is considered luxury cars.
Fairlanes and some Lexus are 2 examples

Mine's stock j-spec. Works exactly as you would expect. The park light is an auxiliary lamp inside the fog light. The fog lights are controlled by the fog light switch (duh!). The side-light illuminates continuously when turning with the head lights on. The side-light arrangement is common on several Nissan models I think, definitely Maximas.

thanks =) - i will try to set mine up as it should be stock... it makes more sense to have the side ones as indicators rather than the inside ones - u can't really see the ones on the front of the bar from the side easily....

That's right. The footpath illumination light thing was fairly popular back in the early 90's (not just on Nissan's). Had a 1990 Maxima (australian delivered, one of the very first J30's in the country) that my parents bought as an ex-demo which also had the footpath illumination things, though they were pretty pointless imho. They would come on whenever you indicated and had the headlights on. The most use I ever got out of them was using it to illuminate the house numbers painted on the gutter late at night lolz.
