So any news as to what is going to happen with the brake lines from the GB last year if they are the wrong brake lines?

Hi mate, you must have missed some of the posts above. UAS are going to fit some of their goodridge lines up to my car as it's in the workshop at the moment. I'll get some pics etc and send to all the buyers from the Group Buy to clear up any confusion.

At this stage I should be getting the pics on monday.

As long as it is factual, I have no issue.

while a correction was made, there was no apology for

what i would have thought was a rather serious mis-statement of fact, one clearly denigrating a known brand product ..????

Maltech -found this on your website

What is the relationship between you guys and brakequip?

I will be at john's shop monday so will take pictures of the brakequip line that has failed.

What info will confirm if it is one of yours?

    Not false

Everything I said was true, I don't make things up although it is often popular on this forum. In fact there seemed to be an ex parte hearing on facts and not discussed. This is what the forum technical section is about discussing ideas and situations and problems and what works and what doesn't. Like issues with Goodridge lines not fitting is this aloud to be discussed?
I happen to be a brake and clutch specialists that sells the Brake Quip lines on Saturday, and they stated that the normal rubber ferrels braided lines are for road use and not for motorsport use. For motorsport use they use alloy ferrels or sleaves, which stand up to the heat. Although in certain applications might cause a problem with a hard edge. Also see this site it seems they are the same as I thought.

Why shouldn't we talk about Goodbridge lines not fitting up? Thats the point of having a forum am i not correct? People agree to disagree about anything and everything...

The fact still remains the issue with theses lines have come about now and something needs to be done. Rob260 has stated that the lines will be fitted up to his car and photos taken etc. I will be waiting to hear info and see pictures of the lines fitted up and work out what i am going to do as i would like to fit the lines i got in the GB or if not the right lines supplied for the Z32.

The issue is being discussed and that is a good thing and yes the answers you're after will be produced as you bought the lines from a quality workshop that stands behind their product.

There are a number of other businesses on this forum (Street to Strip and AMEC) for example, yet they have been noticeably absent from the discussion. It's worth making the point that the lines which sparked this thread were NOT purchased from UAS.

The point john is making is that he posted a reference to Maltech lines failing in motorsport situations as the crimped fittings they use do not stand up to abuse as well as the swaged fittings used on the goodridge lines. This is fact and anyone doubting it is welcome to search for the difference between swaged and crimped fittings, wikipedia is a good place to start http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swage for example. Nonetheless mods felt the need to edit this claim out of John's post as maltech got upset at the suggestion that one of their products may have failed and they weren't aware of it. Fortunately I will also be getting pictures of a failed brakequip line which according to their website is the same design that maltech use. So yeah point is why is it OK to discuss the possibility that the UAS lines don't fit (and yes possibility at this stage as the only person from the Group Buy who has actually fitted them is chrispy and he is 100% happy with the quality and fitment) but not OK to discuss reports that the crimped fittings on maltech lines may have failed?????

And while on topic I am dissapointed but not surprised that mods would find it easier to believe that UAS (who are by far biggest Z32 specialist in Australia and opened shop in 1995) would invent sotries about ANY braided lines failing than to entertain the possibility that this may indeed be the case. Just because supplier is not aware of problems does not mean they don't exist. Case in point guess how many of the UAS group buy purchasers have contacted UAS to ask about fitting the lines. NONE.

Actually Tektrader called John while i was at his workshop when we were trying to install my brake lines. John said that they have never fitted a set to a 300zx, Stu was at the factory with us and we decided not to fit the brake lines until we figured out the proper (safe) way to do it. We could have installed them but taking the "she'll be right" mentality towards brakes would be stupid and although i did want these lines fitted before DECA this week, I didn't want to take the risk of not securing the lines and having them wear through or get caught on suspension parts.
Yes stu's lines were purchased through AMEC but they are exactly the same as mine (UAS GB) except his don't have the collars or tags... but they are the same length and neither of our sets have the ferules for mounting in the stock location.

I've been absent from this discussion for a couple of reasons:

    1. I dont like shit fights.

    2. I am happy to refund anyone's brake lines if they are not happy with the product and can return them to me.

    Failed Lines Pics

Ok some failed line pics for everyone...

first up let's get some pics of the OEM lines.

Now for the brakequip lines which came off a commodore cup car. The problem is that the rubber used in the crimping process heats up, then contracts when it cools. Not a problem of too much pressure, but too much heat. Goodridge by comparisson use alloy collars etc and swaged fittings, hence lifetime warranty.

As discussed above these are not maltech lines but the same design as maltech and many others. The numbers on the line for anyone interested are Crn30886 and 057 is pressed on the fittings on the ends.

Please excuse resolution, my camera isn't that great and the target isn't that big...

    Fitment of Goodridge Lines

    OK now for the fitment.

UAS attempted to fit the lines to my car and did run into some issues, not with length or mounting points but with one of the fittings. The line mounted up OK at the caliper end but had some kind of adapter at the other end which is particularly confusing as Chrispy has succesfully fitted his following same method. It's possible that the new set UAS got in store is incorrect, but waiting to get a set correctly fitted up etc to clarify.

We are waiting for the supplier to come around before proceeding. More info to follow as soon as it is available.

Since this is aimed at me, let me clarify.

The facts as I see them.
In this particular case. Statements were made about a particular product from a particular manufacturer by UAS. These statements were made based on assumptions at the time, and not fact.

Now, you may think I have been anti-UAS about this whole thing, but that is not true. You obviously have not read the PMs that john and I have sent each other on this matter.

I would like to think that I would be equally as pro-active in UAS's favour should the situation ever be reversed.

I try to be as unbiased in my dealings on here whether it be a popular / unpopular / business or private member.

If you think otherwise, I am happy to take it to PM with you

    EDIT
One of your pics is not working for me

Anyone else see gouge marks through the plastic sheath and into the braid?

Mine fitted fine, BUT, had extras :p Didn't need the crush washers and the adaptors that came with them, chucked them out and the rest fit up fine. Mine where the original UAS ones, not from the other GB's.

Rob, I'm only going to speak for myself, no-one else. I'm not going to jump the gun and rush to John/UAS with an issue until I see that there is a need to. We have been promised pics of an installation of Goodridge on a Z; I don't believe we have seen them yet.

My main concern is with Goodridge themselves, and the product they have delivered. Why is the product I/we have received different to the the Goodridge product marketed in the USA in that the locating ferrules are on the US product but not ours? These are clearly seen on the stock lines you posted pics of as well. Nissan sees fit to support the lines at 2 points along the line; Goodridge USA sees fit to do the same, yet Goodridge thinks diferent for other markets?

Ran out of editing time. Further to my post above, on 22/4 JP advised that he was reviewing the situation with a Goodridge rep - and I haven't seen any follow up placed yet. It would be good if their response could be provided as UAS is the reseller not the manufacturer.

If satisfactory feedback and installation pics don't come, then YES, I will be contacting UAS.

Cheers, Mikey (and thanks for the nose panel - picked up from PO yesterday.)

Tektrader Z32 Hoe, service me baby

I didnt say they dont fit due to length. Both lines are the right length to fit all the way from the hard points on the chassis to the caliper.

But that is NOT how they are supposed to fit. These pipes should be a replacement for the Nissan rubber pipes. AND THEY ARE NOT.

To have them fitted and not use the stock mounting points leaves them open to roadworthy issues as explained by BADXTC.

ATM I see the pipes in their current form as being Track use only.
