When the ignition is on (engine not running) all indicators and hazards work. As soon as I start the car the right hand indicator starts blinking at an uneven rate, seems to match the engine revs. I've checked all the bulbs so figure it's the relay. I'm pretty sure changing the relay will fix it but I can't find the bloody thing. I can hear it clicking near the fuses but I can't see it, a pic would help if anyone has one. Also if it is the relay wouldn't it affect both left and right indicators?
I would think it is a wiring short rather than the flasher unit. May take a bit of digging around to find the short, it is most likely shorted to the tacho wire as the indicator wires run nowhere near any other engine speed related components
Thanks for the info but I wouldn't know the first thing about tracing faults on my car. My electrical knowledge goes as far as fuses and relays. Got any photos?
can someone tell me where the relay is so I can rule it out. Will be a lot easier than tracing wires.
EL-59 for the wiring diagram. There is no relay in the circuit other than the usual main power ones. EL-112 shows the location of the combination flasher unit which could be the problem, but more likely to be bulbs or wiring IMO. I'd replace the bulbs on the right hand side and see if that helps. If no win, check the wires for continuity, good earth etc.
For completeness I'll close this thread out. Was a simple fix. Front right indicator wire has fatigued and broken. It was just sitting loose inside the connector.
my left front indicator is doing the same thing all other left indicator bulbs works( side and rear ones) changed the bulb today and it didnt make any difference the left side/read indicator was blinking madly while the front left didnt blink at all will have to check out the wires and connectors cheers
Are your front inner guard liners fitted? Reason I ask is with this rain that we have been getting lately, there is no protection for the front blinkers from water spraying off the tyre. Can easily seep into the bulb fitting and corrode the earthed outer housing that the bulb sits in. Can be easily checked with a multimeter. If corroded/rusted, clean with a small round file. If you still don't get a good earth reading, then you can run a secondary earth to the bulb housing. Looking at the housing from the rear, you will see, to the side of the housing, a wire running in through a small rubber grommet. Using a terminal screwdriver, pry the grommet outwards, giving you a visible path through to the earthed bulb housing. Splice a new section of wire into the existing earth and run the stripped end through to the housing. File a small section clean and solder your new wire to it.
yes your right my veilside bumper doesnt really have anything protecting the electrical wires and connectors from water from the tyre, will give a test with the muilti tomorrow after work so this fix is kinda like the h3 bulb adaptor fix like in the tech section. thanks for the head up dunno why i didnt think of it
sorry for double post but confirmed i've cleaned out the metal outer housing with a small flat head screw driver and now its all working fine thank you
