I had a chat to an air con guy this morning and any air com pump should work as long as the displacement is big enough for the job. Modern pumps are a smaller physical size so I'm off to the scrapyard tomorrow to look for something that will fit
yep I'll go find a magnet. I've got the stock VH one and a VG one, thought I could cut n shut the VG one onto it but it's not long enough so I need some straight piping. Sounds good. Let us know if you find something that can fit
Awesome, you're still good for tomorrow arvo? Aidan's bringing a ute down to my place and picking up my old VG as well tomorrow
Mine has been working great as a pusher, no aircon condenser to get in the way though. No trouble with keeping temp down even with a TT radiator and 14" thermo. Steam pipe is mild steel. I believe that the standard flanges are cast steel. I cut the standard header pipes off leaving a bit sticking out to weld to. Worked good and didn't get any noticeable warping. It's steel. Steampipe? Must be a big vice!! I had enough trouble with tube, must be my girly little arms I tried that, the ally in the bonnet just doesn't want to play the game, it's very stiff.
Thanks for clearing all that up Chris, my bad I did mean pusher... I will remove the condenser temporarily and figure out the whole A/C thing later...
hahahaha I dunno hey, I thought I was gonna fry without A/C but I'm getting used to working in the 39deg heat outside... My whole family is complaining about the heat but I think I'm getting used to it Nah, I will find a way to put the A/C in. Black car in Perth summers = not fun
Cut your holes, then get some light card from the newsagents. Make a nice "cover" (ie bulge). (If you are good with sketchup, you could do it with pepakura - Google it) Then once you have it right, glass it
Lol! That's such a neat tool!! The Japs take origami seriously... Yeah I figured I will have to just glass it... onwards to online tutorials!
If you really want to, I could look at doing the 3D drawing of part of the bonnet. I don't know what you need for the bulge though.
Thanks Dave, I will give you a shout if I do end up needing a hand with the 3D drawing and doing it that way... this is just temporary though so doesn't need to be too fancy.
Got a bit done since last update. Engine mounts are done after a whole day of engine ins and engine outs (x1000)... Thanks to Aidan for doing most of the cutting, grinding and drilling, and thanks to Chris (ezzup) for coming by as well to help drill the hole in the mounts for the massive bolts. Good fun day of working on the Zed Shame about the weather though, raining on and off all day! I'm broke now so I have to wait til Wednesday til I get paid, then it will be time to order/hunt for some items: - 2x 10" thermofans - fuel filter - injector O-rings (got the part number right this time) - electric P/S pump from MR2 or Vectra or similar - some more heater hoses & silicone pipes - new battery - header gaskets (VG gaskets look like they can fit VH flanges) Also I won't be using a normal radiator I'm going to use a FMIC as a radiator up at the front, with dual 10" thermos mounted behind pulling air
Waiting on Northside Nissan for parts: 8x Insulator-Injector ... 16636-60U00 8x Gasket-Exhaust Manifold,A ... 14036-60U00 2x Knock Sensor ... 22060-30P00 Also just did my rounds with all the Malaga wreckers, cheapest elec P/S pump I found was $250 from an Astra. It looks pretty big though, I think the MR2 one is a bit smaller. It'll fit though now that I have no radiator in the way. I will probably buy this one after my next payday cause my funds are getting drained very quickly from conversion parts Now I'm gonna go back to sanding down the bonnet, priming & painting it pics! Sikaflexed & glassed then filled & grinded down
about the same as yours I think, I can't see, is that inclinometer indicating that it's about level?? Mine protrudes from the bonnet line around 2-3cm from memory
