I dunno, i think the Rb is a good engine, but the 2jz-gte is a really well balanced engine and the tolerences are tight on it, prettymuch a blueprinted engine from factory, alot easier to mod. I'd rather go with a vh over an rb.
Bloody hell, getting M10x1.0 thread bolts is HARRRDDD. Every Coventrys I've been to don't have them/can't get them, nor do the other engineering supply places I went to. Gonna try West Coast fasteners now since a few places were confident they stock M10x1.0, hopefully they have something in the 12.9 UTS range.
Alright so nobody in Perth stocks longer M10x1.0 bolts... I had a look through the ARP catalogue and they have bolts for a Ford Pinto in M10x1.0 but it's only 1.150" in length (29.21mm). Z32 bolts are 27mm while the spacer/adapter plate thickness is 0.25" (6.35mm) so the ARP bolts still won't be long enough... Anyone got any ideas? Someone on NICO is using the Pinto ARP bolt for their VH using the Mazworx plate. silver300zx, how thick is the Mazworx plate you got?
Using the Mazworx plate you machine down the bellhousing, so it's thickness has no bearing on it. And you're spacer is a bit thin IMO. Mine is 8mm and I had to extend the clutch slave push rod to get the clutch to disengage at all.
I haven't got it cut yet... I assumed I just needed a spacer the same thickness as the adapter plate? What would you say is the ideal spacer thickness? and where did you get your bolts Chris also slightly unrelated, I'm thinking of switching my major to Mech
I wouldn't go much thicker than 8mm without a way of locating the flywheel concentrically onto the cranks and also retaining the spigot bush. Have a look at the Xtreme engineering VH-VG adaptor plate set for an idea of what I mean. My bolts came from a local bolt shop, had to visit a couple before someone could get them for me. They may have been 8.8's rather than 12.9's though. I would go 12.9's if possible though. And good! All the cool kids do mechanical engineering
Metric Men had 8.8s but they wouldn't sell them to me after I told them the motor has around 400Nm max torque... I haven't done the math for the forces at the crank but I'm quite worried about the flywheel ripping the floorpan and taking my legs Do you mean the Xcessive kit? You're right their spacer looks like a proper hubcentric wheel spacer. They don't sell it separately though Might go order that kit hey... just realised they have a smaller P/S pulley I could use instead of trying to find one from a Maxima. I think I'll be switching back to Mechatronics Eng. Best of both worlds! Then do ITBs as my 3rd year project, and apply for some extra funding
Nothing exciting today on the engine side of things... Got a pair of bolts for the engine mounts, 2x 130mm 8.8UTS M20 with nyloc nuts. Pics of mounts for future reference: Also ripped my spoiler off: Wow, look at that! Zero rust :zlove::zlove: Then started to prep & paint my new wing... yes it's from a Skyline Also finished painting my temporary old skool Works, all clear coated now: and that's all for today
you can just change the front bell housing over between the boxes only takes about 10 mins to get one off , even less with circlip pliars i bet
You didn't send yours to Mazworx to get machined right? What kinda place would be able to machine down the bellhousing properly?
Not worth sending it over to the states. A couple places here in Sydney quoted my 350 - 600 to get it done . Got a friend to do it here at his shop much cheaper. I'm sure you could find someone her that will do it for a good price
Yeah, it would be an unjustified expense sending it over to Mazworx. I've sent queries to a few online bolt stores to see if they can get me the longer M10x1.0 flywheel bolts... if I can't get them then I'll have to resort to getting the bellhousing machined down. $350-$600 is a fair bit more expensive than getting some bolts
I got my bellhousing machined at Metro Toolmakers Pty Lty, 8/195 Bannister Rd, Canning Vale. Only cost me $50. Did a good job
I think I'm going to get it machined then lol. Thanks mate. None of the online bolt places I contacted can get the flywheel bolts for me. Canning Vale is pretty far, I really need to buy a ute lol
if you machine down bell housing we will end up either unable to bolt the GB mount up to old holes or the mounts we have gettign made will have to be scrapped and started again :/ as location of mounts will have changed a bit...
Yeah you're right... Obviously I didn't think it through. Machining it down will just take us backwards in process... I'll just keep looking for those flywheel bolts lol
