My Excedy/Extreme hybrid clutch is slipping. Im going to try adjusting it first (friction point right at the top of pedal, maybe 1cm travel) but most likely I'll need a new clutch. Was going to replace it, but rather than spending $900+ on another Excedy, I'm looking for something a little more streetable, less shudder and the need to be SO precise, but can still hold the power. I've heard lots of good reports about F1 Racing Clutches ...I'd like some feedback from those that use it, and advice on whether to choose stage 2 or 3. I have between 210 and 240rwkw (depending on dyno) and drive everyday. And yes, I do use the power, and yes I will be looking for more. Thanks buddies.
I've got my new F1 clutch kit sitting here right now, and will be installed withing the next week (hopefully). I'll update here as to it's performance.
Man if you want something smoother than exedy heavy duty you need to go for cushion button or full face. Those stage 2 and stage 3 clutches you linked to are all six button so going to be harsh. Exedy cushion button (9 button) might be your best bet but not cheap.
Stage 2 is not a 6 puck. Cara has one in her zed WITHOUT a clutch booster and its awesome, and she loves it. Very streetable.
the heavy duty i was talking about is the full face heavy duty, smooth as stock and holds 300kw no worries. Actually i just rememberd, my most recent clutch is an exedy sports tuff, full face but with a bit more clamp force than a HD. I recently supplied a exedy cushion button for a forum member, somewhere around 700 for the kit.
$99 shipping mate. But i had it within 5 days! :zlove: Thanks for the recommendation buddy, i'll know how she goes when i get her in the new box, hopefully by next weekend (looks at Rollin )
Correct, this F1 Stage 2 cluch kit is the same one that i ordered for my Zed also. Being a full face will hopefully be nice and streetable still. Hopefully it will put up with 430hp for a while too. But will keep the updates coming as they happen with it.
F1 Stage 2 - brilliant I've got the stage 2 F1 clutch in my Zed. I'm running stock but with an EBC @ 15psi max, Z1 ECU upgrade and the F1 stage 2 clutch is still going strong. (after 2 years of use) I had it installed Jan for powercruise 2010 and it has never slipped once since then (for powercruise 2011 I had the EBC wound up and the F1 still held strong all day) Great street clutch because I drive my Zed a lot and great at the track for powercruise. Postage USA to Tas was $90US and here on my door step in 5 days.
Im running a stage II F1 clutch, had it for 3 months now. Not a single complaint, cheap and works well my zed is a daily and its very streetable, even in peak Melbourne traffic
Ive used Exedy and have to say they are the way to go and pretty much you get what you paid for...i have a brand new exedy heavy duty TT clutch kit sitting in my garage so if you want it let me know and we can work something out.
I have same clutch in my VG30det powered ute. The clutch action is lightning fast but still smooth. Pedal is surprisingly light. L8r E
F1 Stage 3 is a 6 segment cusioned brass button plate. Infinitely nicer than some of the 3 or 4 segment uncushioned plates many dudes learn to really hate. Remember the golden (brass) rule: Built for grip, NOT for slip! They are driveable on a daily basis. There is a kinda "sweet spot" where the amount of throttle and RPM results in a smooth takeoff, but by all accounts will eventually become annoying in city traffic and slow manouvering around. Some guys put up with them for years, others hate them and take them out straight away. Extreme make a multi-segmented brass plate thing that by all accounts is perfectly streetable but I hear a few not so glowing stories about them and they are very expensive. A M8 of mine lunched a couple with barely 400Kw atw in a street car. I dont really know what that says about his driving style but fact remains 2 died consecutively. The only way youll really know is by fitting one up for yourself. Machine your flywheel face and "run in" the clutch thoroughly for smoothest results. Good luck. L8r E
Thanks Tass. You basically just explain my current clutch at the moment, which is what i meant in my OP when i said "the need to be so precise"...I've mastered the 'sweet spot' and love it however, it is annoying in city traffic... And now that it's slipping I want a change. It's now between Stage 3 and an Excedy heavy duty...
