You hit the nail on the head Benny C
it's why I went with Nissan vs 300ZX or Z32...
wouldn't want to potentially exclude all those poor Silvia and Skyline drivers now would we?

Maybe you could make an associated plate with the H pattern on it?

I wouldn't do that' you might end up getting some nigerian knob then ;)

Yes this is what I originally wanted, personalization.
Went with "NISSAN" purely for prototyping/proof of concept purposes.
The logo was made using spark erosion.

I'm organizing a sample from my new manufacturer and will get him to CNC engrave the logo this time.
If quality is good enough we may be able to work out individual names.
Only thing would be the amount of time it would take me to do the 3D CAD for each separate shifter.

Price could go up slightly for this.
Who would be up paying slightly more for their own personalized shifter (forum name/whatever...you email it to me)?
Font would probably have to be standard though, and you might have to wait a bit longer to get it.

    Ok, you're down.
Currently in sample making phase (manufacturer to make me 1 sample so I'm happy with his quality before he proceeds to make a whole bunch).
    Will keep you posted.

    Dear Z Owners

I'm going to look into the personalization idea.
Who likes the idea of having their own name/avatar/logo engraved on the shifter?
For text-based I'd have to pick some standard of font, and it would take a bit more time to get them made as I'd have to design each shifter as a one-off.

    Will look into personalized logos.
There's enough play at the base for a tall enough boot to slide up inside (sorry if that sounds gay) ;)
Mine sits just short, which kinda bothers me. But I don't think it's the stock boot, car had 4 owners before me.
When I get around to it I'll make my own out of air leather or something nice.

    I know what you mean.
You could probably have a blank one in black chrome if you wanted it.
I would instruct manufacturer to simply leave plain.

I'm currently checking whether this is feasible.
If so then I would probably have to limit personalized ones to say batches of 10-15, and turnaround would be slightly longer too as I'd have to design each 3D CAD file per shifter separately.
I would try to bundle in personalized orders with "NISSAN" logo and plains.
For those that don't get their personalized order in for the first run, wait time could be a couple of months, or the price would go up significantly as a one-off.

I'm up for this though, will see if I can figure something out that will work for everyone.

Would love a personalized one. Don't mind paying a bit more for it. Maybe post up in for sale when you know what's possible and prices but looks like it's going to be popular.

You could have Z32 if you wanted.

Let me know what you want so I can CAD it now and have everything ready for when production happens.

Cool. The price is reasonable, I was looking at weighted shifters for my MR2 from the states, $110US. It's what you pay for quality.. Managed to find a one-off Greddy ~400 ball shifter for $60 at Autobarn instead which was lucky.
Is it going to be weighted? And perhaps an engraved shifter pattern may be another idea for legality sakes.
And keeping the shifter cool in the summer is as simple as putting a couple of socks over it when parked. ;)

Thanks for commenting that price is reasonable. I'm going to include postage in those prices now too.

Being pretty much solid stainless the knob is definitely weighty.
My prototype, which is fitted in my car (and in photos at top), weighed about 550g.
It gives your shifts a bit of momentum and makes them feel, I dunno, solid somehow.

Can do 5spd h gate pattern, will post pics of CAD model for you to see soon.

    Cheers
