Hi guy's, got a hole fixed today in the zed, but i noticed at my rear cats the flanges have holes in them

should i get a straight through pipe? or replace them? or get the straight through pipe and weld a cat around it so it looks like i have one?

Not only is it irresponsible to run without a cat :nono: ,if you do,make sure you put aside $6000 for the fine when the epa pick you up to do a test
fix it properly :bash: ,straight throughs are for racing and countries/states of the U.S where it is legal to run without them

wheres the " shakes head in disbelief " smiley when you need it lol

    Cats are catalytic converters

and they are required by law. There are only one set and they are in the pipes at the very front near the engine. There are no "rear cats" and there are no cats in your photo at all because that is the exhaust system. The cats are in the pipes that the exhaust system bolts up to.

In the exhaust system, you can have a series of resonators, mufflers and x-pipes to get the job done just like in your photo. There are lots of variations on the theme, and there is no right answer, only personal preference. However, there are legal issues on noise levels, and you must not have an exhaust leak under the car as it is potentially dangerous, because carbon monoxide may find its way into the cabin and kill you.

Exhaust drone is an issue on Zeds and using an x-pipe to join the two sides is a good way to reduce it.

So what exactly is your problem? If one of the mufflers or pipes in that photo has a hole in it, get your local exhaust guy to simply weld it up. If I have misunderstood please clarify.

    Easy peasy Japanesee

Your rear muffler has a split in it. Get an exhaust shop to weld it back together - easy job. They might have to put a small plate over the top to get it done properly depending on exactly where the tear is.

That system looks pretty new (in your photo at least) and good quality mufflers should never split like that. How old is your system? If it is reasonably new and a name brand, I'd be talking to the manufacturer about giving you a free replacement muffler.

sorry that pic was for reference, its about a 3 year old system from what i can see form the receipts i have, I'll just get them to weld it closed.

just one more thing, now they fixed my leak (just after the dump) it feels as though their is abit of performance lose :( o well.

At least their isn't a droning noise at 100km/h

I think you are probably imagining it.

The exhaust is doing its job when the smooth continuous flow pattern of the gases helps the engine breathe. A hole in a pipe would disturb that flow and reduce power in my view, even more so if there was a hole in one side and not the other.

It would sound louder though. ;)
